I don't think any of the others are close to Disney in size and autonomy. Plus it's a world wide brand.
@Lawrence Wright is correct. Its pretty obvious that all of this by DeSantis, especially suddenly apparently such a priority for him, is to get headlines to run for POTUS. He ran off the prosecutor in Tampa -- big city, big headlines. Now he is threatening to in Orlando -- big city, big headlines.
If he went after the taxing district for the Dreher Park Zoo (which you have never heard of) you wouldn't even know it. But take on the cultural icon of Disney and bash it as woke?
Trump got headlines by saying ridiculous things. DeSantis is attempting to coopt the outraged Trump base by trying to use government to take action against them that meets the base's agenda and gets him headlines as Trump .... without the baggage.
DeSantis is running for POTUS.
To win the Republican nomination, the number one qualification for the base is to be willing and able to fight. Hard to demonstrate that if you don’t do battle over somethingThe fact that he's decided to go full-scale culture warrior is the most disappointed I've been about politics since I knew we were in for either Biden or Trump again.
He didn't have to do this. He already had the most presidential buzz in the party and that's been the case for at least a couple years. He's addicted to the attention he gets for it within the party, but it will hurt him in the general (not to mention his policies in the culture war have been very worrisome reflections of what he thinks the role of central government is). All he had to do was preach responsible government and economy.
Because Disney is the only one to specifically interject themselves into the legislative process and call for the electoral defeat of specific representatives perhaps?
The others pay the same taxes and abide by the same regulations as anyone else. Disney is the one that had special treatment. Now they don't. The others didn't gain special treatment either.I haven't heard of any other theme parks in Florida being targeted by the state, what makes Disney the target of the ire of the Florida lawmakers?
