Disney: The Most Evil Business In The World

I guess the right wing has added Disney to its list of things to hate. As part of that they always claim the hated place is doing badly economically when there is nothing further from the truth.

Maybe Disney the communication entity isn't doing as well, but I was reading an article that talked about how DisneyWorld is going to increase its already astronomical prices to reduce the crowds. If that's the case, it's not doing too badly.
I think you would need to clarify if you are talking about parks or Disney overall. Because overall they are doing bad, and that has nothing to do with political bias, nor could it be argued otherwise. If it wasn't for the success of the parks they would be in trouble. And as long as they continue to unsuccessfully focus on Disney+, this will not change. Awesome graphic below to show the story. As you can see the parks are the only profitable segment. That being said, the margins aren't the best for parks so I understand why they focus on media.

Side note: if anyone is a Disney fan, I highly recommend checking out the YouTube channel "Mickey Views". He provides some great updates with the parks, and then also does some in depth analysis on their financials. Lots of the issues stem towards the Fox purchase and the debt that brought over per one of his videos.

Also, not sure how someone from Central Florida could cheer against Disney's success. Their success (at least parks) drives the success of probably every other business segment in the area. I would argue that Universal parks benefits more from Disney and very little the other way around. I am sure people go to Orlando for just a Universal trip, but majority are probably Disney vacations with Universal tagged on.

Disney accounts for 20% of the total employee number for Orlando's Top 75 employers. Probably half of these in the top 15 benefit from Disney.

Makes sense. You've got two full shifts every day while customers are in the parks and one overnight shift getting ready for the next day, 365 days a year. Then you've got all the resort hotels. Transportation. It's mind blowing, the scope of what they do.

Couldn't get me to work there though. I figure it's a step below going through SERE school.

Hi Ho!

A nice big FU to Ronny

He didn't cross their mind when they decided to make this $. This has been planned since 2019

I don't even get how this would be an F U? Does DeSantis openly hate gay people? An equality conference bothers him? Are you saying he's an outright homophobe?

Beat me to it…events of that scale are booked years in advance.

Disney will easily outlive the political life of Ron DeSantis, but right now Ron DeSantis needs evil Disney to stay in the news cycle.

Ron DeSantis is using the powers of his office to fight a petty, culture war, political battle. If he didn't anticipate this sort of poison pill defense ... then that's on him. Bravo, to the previous Disney board.

I guarantee you they knew something like this would happen. They just wanted a good headline to get the base fired up that he was going after the groomer mouse.

Wouldn't it be safe to say based on how he has governed, that at the very least, Ron DeSantis thinks that the core constituency of the Republican Party in Florida is homophobic?

I'm not say you're wrong for that, but I don't think they're comfortable with that label

Isn't it safe to say that the core Democrat party claims republicans hate minorities? And Ron is a dbag.

Maybe ... but this thread is mostly about the culture war battle between Disney and DeSantis. He clearly believes that it is to his advantage politically to treat homosexuality as deviant behavior which poses a threat to the welfare of children.

The Rule Against Perpetuities? Who comes up with this (oh yeah, lawyers)? So I ask my next-door neighbor about the Rule Against Perpetuities and he says "I'm an f'ing litigator and it's been 20 years since I took the bar exam." He then tells me that he thinks that in Tennessee it is set at 360 years. Wow.

I like how quiet Disney has been about this the whole time. They basically write their own deal months ago and the ousted board rubber stamps it. Then the politically appointed board comes in, realizes they’ve been played for fools, and is now threatening tax payer dollars to fight the states largest employer in court. Winning issue right there.

Can’t wait to hear zingers Trump comes up with on Meatball Ron over this.
