Do we have the money?

It is absolutely destroying the game aspect of this whole thing. You now have 18-23 year old kids holding schools, coaches, and fans hostage. THEY DO NOT HAVE TO PLAY FOOTBALL. If you don’t like the arrangement, go get a job like everyone else

Except they’re not holding anyone hostage. A program can decide not to pay what player is asking. Risk/reward in that decision making.

It doesnt matter how much money Spyre has, our staff wont overspend or bid for a player. If we offer a player a certain $ amount, and then another team offers him more $, we will let that player walk. All the insiders have said something to this effect (kingvfl, ap, rc)
Well at this rate and the way the $$ game is being played now, then the football program is clearly going in the direction and okay with being just a mid level SEC team who gets maybe 8-10 wins a season and a nice bowl game maybe... we will certainly never get to the next level competing for championships with that stance and being around 10-15 ranked in recruiting. So the staff needs to quit saying we're here to compete for championships, because that's not how you do it now...

The staff and AD also needs to be held accountable and be called out when we regress on the field and get beat because we don't have as much talent on the field as our opponent. You can't have it both ways now... Guess we'll see this fall.

If I know that we are indeed taking that type of stance when I give to the collective, then you can count me out on paying any more for going to games, etc... I am not going to go spend a ton of money on a game when I know we aren't in it fully to try and win a championship, but to just cruise through the season with what we can get and see what happens.

We do have the right money, but it seems we aren't going to overpay for a player unless it is a clear no brainer that is easily seen as better than anyone else on the team in that position. I agree with the philosophy of not trying to pay for every player in the portal like Ole Miss. We really need about 4-6 players in the portal and can be picky. Nico is a sophomore next year and year 2 as a starter, I expect a Hendon Hooker like jump in his stats if we can get the right WR and right OT.

Sadly, there may only be a dozen or so no brainers each portal season and we haven’t signed one to date

We have a great fan base who shows up to every game but only a few donate to NIL. I hate that it’s the fan’s responsibility. Maybe once profit sharing or whatever goes into effect it will help. NFL fans don’t have to donate money for free agent pickups… sad times in college athletics. Our fans do everything and are expected to fund the roster too.

And..............This is what everyone wanted. Gotta deal with it.

I honestly don't care anymore who transfers in or out...........just produce on the field. Every year is a crap shoot now.

The american dream is for people to pursue happiness and prosper, but we've got adults Mad at young adults making money doing what they love and refusing to watch sports because of it. just wait til you find out that all these corporate chains and industries you frequent abd give your hard earned money to are corrupt and shady AF

what a shame.
I totally agree that corporate America is corrupt. I think people are getting ready to be shocked at what is going on. I had already given up on pro sports because of manipulation and I now see it happening to my beloved college sports. So many pro players retire and are bankrupt within a short time and their lives are in turmoil. So now we want to give 20-21 year old young people more money in 2 years than a majority of fans in the stands, will make their entire life. What’s worse is they want those same fans to pony up the money. I’m not mad at the players for doing it, I just refuse to go along with using my money (not the Billions the schools are now making) to finance it.

There have to be people within the program, in Spyre, or related somehow, that know how to run an annual fund. I’m a member of the Volunteer Club, but I would never have known about how to join if not for this platform. And I’m an alum. It’s doesn’t seem all that well organized from a targeted fund raising standpoint.
On the other hand, the Alabama AD sent out a very public message encouraging their fanbase to get contribute to their NIL collective. I’m sure there was a link. More important, he raised awareness and stoked the fires of competition within his ranks.

30k Vol fans dropped what they were doing and trekked to Columbus, a dumpy, cold town (sorry, still a little surly) during Christmas. We sell out every game. The “want to” is there. The message just needs to be crafted and thoughtfully delivered.
From what I hear, Spyre does a great job with what they have. Creative and productive plans for the athletes in addition to funding. Highly organized. I personally thing they have done a great job. But the ante is being upped across the country. I think they could do better with visibility and access. I expect you’ll see Josh and/or Danny publicly making some sort of plea soon.
The problem with NIL from a fans standpoint is, just like our NIL budget, the fans budget’s are finite. Most can’t buy the tickets/donations and continually fund NIL. There comes a point of choosing. I will openly admit that I don’t contribute to NIL. I’m sure I can try to cut out my daily coffee or work on quitting dip and free up funds in the budget to contribute but right now I like those vices more lol. Up until 4 years ago I had 3 season tickets for football and 2 for baseball. Both kept rising so much, plus my 4 hour travel and accommodations coming from out of state I ultimately had to choose one. I felt baseball gave me the best return, given the number of games, but it also costs me more overall because of the longer accommodations required and more frequent trips. It’s my choosing so I’m not looking for a pity party from Danny White but I will spend roughly $5K this spring on tickets and travel for baseball alone. I don’t see how this is sustainable for athletic departments with the general cost of living in everything else. I can see it being a mad rush right now while it’s new however, 10 years from now I can see folks looking up and saying I’ve spent $XK on paying kids to play a sport at my school and we’ve won nothing and I did it at the expense of my own kids education, my retirement, etc. and the whole thing starts drying up.

Looking at the NIL estimates for the top ranked players in the portal, it could take millions of dollars for us to get the talent we need to compete with the likes of Ohio State.
Do we have the resources?
I know it’s the holidays, but we haven’t heard of any new potential players since Moe signed.
The clock is ticking!
Uhh we locked up $8mm Nico...then Gmac, now the #1 2026 QB...

Averaging 10 win seasons...

It appears so 🤣🤣🤣

We must have the largest NIL in the country, with every VOL helping. NIL is in desperate need of more funds, as people are doing year end giving put TN NIL before church and any charity, it will be a better use of funds.

It appears that Tenn is using their NIL to be 3 deep at QB and filling in players around them with whatever money remains. Appears there is a large learning curve in this new world of minor league football.

See. Only 4,500 people in the volunteer club. That's pretty underwhelming to say the least.
My thing about that is, if you can have 101,915 every home game (sell out) then you can have that many monthly donations. If the average donation was $25 a month that’s $30.5Mil a year.
