Do we have the money?

35M ... hmmmm. That should last them one or two years and then they have to do it all over again, and again, and again. I read where Texas and Ohio State had football player salaries of 22M this year alone. Of course, this number will continue to rise annually and I wonder how long these school's alumni will be able to sustain these levels of support?

yes but for a FCS team to raise that much money lets you know, its there, just have to find a group who is ambitious and willing.

its an investment that will increase enrollment and revenue on thbe back end of being able to join a conference

they ended up raising 60M from Oct. 24th until now and went and hired the best and most crreative Offensive COordinator from UNLV to be their head coach. theyre determined to make it into the Mountain west or the new Pac 12 (whenever that gets launched)
UTAD raised another record of $140 million through the Tennessee Fund this past fiscal year. We have renovated Neyland Stadium. We are renovating Lindsey Nelson. We have a new golf complex. There are other expenses than just players to keep up.

Looking at the NIL estimates for the top ranked players in the portal, it could take millions of dollars for us to get the talent we need to compete with the likes of Ohio State.
Do we have the resources?
I know it’s the holidays, but we haven’t heard of any new potential players since Moe signed.
The clock is ticking!

o i know

I worked at UCF in the S&C department for 2 years under Danny White. he is the right man for that job

I guess college football is going to have to implement some kind of salary cap rules like the NFL otherwise there will only be a handful of schools truly able to compete for a natty. It's sad really. No longer can the vast majority of schools even dream of winning a championship because they can't raise these astronomical amounts of money and purchase the best players. Oh well ... money eventually destroys/corrupts everything.

There are more teams in contention now than pre NIL. It’s never going to be possible for everybody to contend. Vandy will always be Vandy no matter what the system is.

You are never going to get a salary cap that survives the court system unless it is collectively bargained. But that would require schools to stop pretending these players aren’t employees.

UT just got $400MM for putting Pilot’s name on the field. Money was siphoned off the athletic’s budget for years. How about paying some back.

All of these donations to the university would be far better spent on NIL. I would be surprised if a lot of it did not come from the same pool of donors.

$400? That deal was reported to be about $80 million over 20 years. They are getting roughly $4 million per year.

Probably correct. There’s a tax difference. Donations to the school can be tax deductible. NIL would need to be an expense through a business.

There’s more than enough money around this program but we clearly aren’t investing it correctly this cycle imo. Hopefully they figure it out.

IF you don't have the BIG NIL Bucks you aren't going to get the better players. It's a Business now to these kids and their families.

I don’t know how you can say that. We are paying to keep the players we want, paying for almost an entire class of early enrollees, and will pay for a few transfers. How there is anything clear about what you said is wild.

We are good as we will get being at 17th on the NIL listed. So if we are good with 10 win season all good, but if you want to run for a Natty got to have several more millions to complete.

It appears that Tenn is using their NIL to be 3 deep at QB and filling in players around them with whatever money remains. Appears there is a large learning curve in this new world of minor league football.
Good strategy.

Get the QB, fill in the rest.

That's how you'll overcome the odds if you aren't old school Bama.
