Do you Run?……Walk?….Bike?…..Swim?…..yoga?…..lift weights? What’s your workout plan?

Short ride today on a trail with a lot of boardwalk: 16.58 miles, 179’ elevation gain, 1:15 riding time. This trail had posted speed limits of 15 & 10 mph, which I observed. Stopped to talk with an ex-Marine officer about options to get to where the trail extended, but the roadside path didn’t extend the entire distance, and the road was too narrow and busy for my liking.

That’s walking pace for @Nerd-Vol
Outstanding @Nerd-Vol
That is absolutely hauling ass.

And that’s not like my runs in Florida on flat land where I’m still 30 seconds off that pace. That’s some serious elevation change

That’s a good day’s work. Glad you’re getting after it from your setback.

Honestly, I struggle at flatter courses. They are never completely flat, and it’s a gradual rise. Those kill me. Give me a hill that’s like climbing a wall so I have to keep a good mindset. That was key in that race. I wanted to get what my body would give on the first 5 miles, but realize all of that was setting the table for the las 4 miles. It’s why I love 10 k and longer races, all about strategy pacing.

If it's alright for a fat guy trying to get in shape to post in here too, I'm working on running through a couch to 5k program. I do the app run/walk 3x per week and do body weight/dumbbell workouts (with late night walks) 2x per week. The app runs/walk workouts are timed instead of distance based.

Last night I did a little under 2 miles following the app time plan. I know the rough distance because I've walked this route many times with gps.

Interesting! I need some structure like this. Is the app just called Couch to 5K, or is there another name for it?

The knees have noped me out of bikes, although I can kinda do stationary recumbent bikes. But they take up so much space! I'd rather be walking the neighborhood and doing light hiking.
The knees got me into cycling. I do walk, but running yields problems.

Congrats on the initiative! Are you incorporating a diet strategy, as well?

If you’re 50+, I recommend reading The Whole Body Reset by Stephen Perrine & Heidi Skolnik

Currently just calorie counting right now. Good or bad day, I've been tracking food for 36 days as of today. I'm down a little more than 7 lbs so far but a long way to go.

I went on a half-week vacation to the smokies with my family and in-laws so I missed several workouts last week. I reset this morning and got my walk/run session in early, before the kids were up though.

Cool deal.

Don't drink sugar, don't eat late at night, and cut way back on carbs.

It was 6 degrees with wind chill (40 mph) when we got to the saddle, which accounted for the last mile of the hike. At 41, this is the first mountain I've ever climbed where I didn't fly down it. My joints and feet wouldn't have it. I guess I should invest in some hiking boots. Never felt like I needed them before. I couldn't quite keep up with my buddies, but nobody was passing me either, so there's that. This old gray stallion ain't what he used to be.

Too cool! Arizona is a beautiful state. I got to do some very limited hiking while on a work trip there. I didn't get to do anything quite like that though.

That hike is not worth it. Saw no wildlife. It's pretty in the sense that all nature is pretty, but it was nothing special. Just felt a little like work. I've hiked the highest peak in all 3 states I've lived in as an adult. This was just checking off a goal. Arizona has a lot better and more enjoyable hikes to offer.

I have family in Arizona, my cousin posted this a while back. Looks like a cool place to spend some time.

Weight loss is 90% what you put in your mouth.
You can’t out exercise a bad diet.
Having said that….exercise is essential for feeling good
