Yeah who wants a guy who thinks enough about this job that he wants long term stability for 10 years.
Do y'all really think we eat all that money if it doesn't "work out" per se? Jon Gruden is a brand. A damn money making brand at that. He will put butts in the seat and merchandise off the shelf instantly. He puts Tennessee's name in the limelight and on the national stage. You all want that, but want to bypass what it takes ($) to get there.
Sunny beaches, it isn't like the AD, University and Boosters are going to eat all that money. Be smart people.
Wrong! Where did you get that? Jimmy Johnson was just on the Dan Patrick show the other day saying how much more work, how much more of a grind, the NFL is over college. I think I trust his take on the difficulties of the job over yours.
At some point every coach is not a successful college coach, but someone gave them a chance. Or do you mean as successful as DD cause we see how that is working out. Are you trying to say the guy can't coach? He won a super bowl, that's the highest football achievement. Also, if you have the best players and the best coach year after year, then you have a pretty good shot at being the best team, is that not the goal along with bringing in money, which that would do.Seriously?
Someone would have to be beyond stupid to award a contract like that. Not to Gruden, not to Patterson, Carroll, Peterson even Saban.
Sometimes, humans just lose their spirit. They lose the drive they once had.
Haslam didnt get to where he is by making stupid decisions and a contract such as that is just stupid.
Personally, if I were to ever have a lapse in judgement and award a contract such as that, it sure as hell wouldnt be to Gruden.
Tell me this...
Other than the initial "WOW!! Tennessee landed John Gruden! " and recruits initially being wowed by his celebrity(which would certainly help to land alot of high end recruits such as Bryce Brown), What else are you guaranteed to get?
If after his intial splash, he isnt winning, kids wont be nearly as impressed by him.
Gruden brings no guarantees other than initial recruiting, he has never been a successful college coach and its just ludicrous to me that such a suggestion would ever even be discussed.
Get real.
I am referring to the daily grind of recruiting, contending with the NCAA looking over your shoulder with every move you make, and answering for the actions of 85+ young men in college. I'm sure I forgot a few, but they are all headaches that NFL coaches do not have.
I am a diehard Dallas fan, but I believe it was more of a grind for Johnson because of "Cocaine Cowboys" from the 90's. He had the same problems at UM.
Not really. Petrino is a better coach.

Ill say this and i think all here would agree. JG is announced as the new HC at UT, watch demand for season tickets to sky-rocket, watch UT apparel start flying off the shelves again, watch the band wagon fill back up, and watch the enormous media coverage that UT Football starts getting again. There will be an immediate positive financial impact, an immediate boost to moral, and immediately all of the negative from the past 5 years will be forgotten. Can he be successful and keep that up is the question. I personally think he can.
