Doak Walker…Sampson Not a Finalist

I think Sampson should have been a semi finalist, but Jeanty should win it. Would he win it if he played in the SEC, I have no idea. Would Sampson have 2000 yards if he played in the MWC? No idea…

Jeanty has had a Barry Sanders like year and it’s very hard to argue without Jeanty and Sampson actually playing the same opponents.

I agree Sampson should be there but the award is already taken. If the crying about sos made sense then nobody from the “superiority complex” conferences would ever win or be invited.

Oregon State lost their head coach and they were ravaged by the portal because of the Pac12 imploding. You’re not about to play me for a fool on this one. They are just another Mountain West team.
If it makes you feel better then downgrade OrSt. It barely moves the needle. This attempt by some to just kick the chair out from under what Jeanty has done this season is utterly bewildering. I just don't get it.

Lol no it’s not. These individual awards don’t care about sos, only you and few homers who can’t see the forest for the trees. If it were the case there’s plenty of other awards you could cry about.
There is no forest and are no trees. It’s as clear cut as it gets. Bottom line is Sampson deserves the same hype as Jeanty but because he plays stiffer competition he doesn’t put up the same numbers. So sorry he doesn’t get the benefit of playing scrubs like Hawaii, San Diego State, Nevada, Utah State, San Jose State, Wyoming, etc. Those are the vaunted conference opponents he gets to run against.

Now, we all shall bow down to the one they call Ashton Jeanty for such a wonderful season against such formidable foes 🙇‍♂️

You left out the #1 team in the nation they played where he put up 2 bills and 3 tds.

Because nobody really cares what you do in the Mountain West. He played one great game against one legitimate opponent. Big whoop. They still lost so he didn’t contribute to winning that game. What’s going to happen whenever UNLV beats them this week? Their precious running back won’t even be in the damn playoff.

Lol. Yea by 3. We lost to Arkansas and struggled against anyone not named UTEP, Chattanooga, Kent st, and a lowly NC st.
Once again, I challenge any of those teams to play a full SEC schedule. Everyone lost on the road, except Texas and they got beat by Georgia. Go ask any team how easy it is to go win on the road in the SEC. All I know is we have more losses than Boise yet we are ranked higher. How could that be? I thought for sure a one loss team should be ranked higher than what Boise State is? Oh yeah it’s because they didn't beat anyone of importance this season.

You just can’t shake that sec superiority complex. You’re attempting to make an argument that’s completely irrelevant to what’s going on. Maybe Carson Beck could win the heisman if he had an easier schedule. Maybe they should add him and remove Travis Hunter since individual awards are all about SOS instead of what you do on the field against who you play. They snubbed Sampson with an invite for sure but he wasn’t winning regardless. I know it’s hard to grasp but someone had a considerably better season than he did.

Travis Hunter isn’t even in the Big 12 championship. If he were so great he would’ve beaten a true freshman QB at Nebraska instead getting his doors blown off. And it’s not considerably better once you factor in Jeanty had 30+ carries against all those scrubs. Let Sampson get that workload against the scrubs we played and he would’ve been close to 2000 yards, if not beyond that mark.

🤣😂 Then they should’ve gave them to him. All you’re doing now is begging for participation trophies based on homerism.

Apparently they do given he's the Doak Walker winner, still possibly the Heisman winner and a lock for AA honors. You have an interesting interpretation of "nobody".

And you are in a bit of a bind with this incessant drum beat about the conference. If your assessment that any decent rb should be able to practically waltz for 2k yards in the MW do explain how aside from Jeanty over the past 5 seasons the conference rushing leader has averaged 1325 yards over 12 games? The reason your math doesn't hold up is because of the degree to which Jeanty is an outlier. You're trying to make a weighted argument, based on a not unreasonable metric, but failing to recognize the limitation. Let's see if we can help you out.

In 2022 the nation's leading rusher was Air Force's Brad Roberts with 1728y. He didn't make the Doak Walker finalist list. Neither in fact did the #2 or #3 rushing leaders. They didn't make it for the reasons you invoke in that context. 1600-1700y is a very nice season but for AF etc. it just doesn't have the "it" factor. Where this (your) argument loses steam is when ANYBODY puts up 2288y and 28tds in just 12 games. Only 2 other players have pulled that off, regardless of competition level, EVER. And that was Marcus Allen and Barry F'ing Sanders. It isn't that competition doesn't matter but rather that while it can contextually temper raw numbers (see the '22 DW above) it can't shade that level of production...and indeed does not.

Why don't YOU take a hike to another message board???

Jeanty is a great player, no disrespect but D Samp would have his stats with that schedule too. Reality.
I don’t know if I agree with that completely. If I’m drafting a player for the NFL I take Jeanty. And I love Sampson. I’m sending my son to his football camp this summer.

Like I said not knock on jeanty. Great player and probably the best back for an NFL team to draft. But DSamp would have similar stats in the Mountain West if not better tbh

Some people can’t take their orange glasses off and be objective. Nobody said anything bad about Sampson and he had a great year but Jeanty has been on another level. I’m not sure why they think sos and sec superiority complex matters.

My feelings aren't hurt...I just despise attitudes like yours that dis out athletes that give their all every time they are on the field.

Nobody has “dissed” anybody. I despise attitudes like yours that don’t know wtf they’re taking about. Jeanty had a better season regardless of how good Sampson’s was. That’s just fact and I can admit that even as a Tennessee fan.
