Does this hurt recruitment?

I’m just saying I would love to know. Just like everyone else I’ve read rumors of some of the NIL values being handed out but I have no idea what would actually be offered to a returning award winner. All I know is Hyatt was getting national attention and would have been a mega star coming into this season. The results are what they are. He’s a 3rd round pick. Definitely nothing to hang his head about but at the same time; he didn’t sit out of the bowl game and make the decision to go pro early just to go in the mid 3rd round.
With NIL mone now, it might be worth it for some players to play out all their eligibility and look at other opportunities besides professional football after finishing college. I would love to see more student athletes shun the league and have larger goals in life, instead of just playing more football and doing more irreversible damage to their bodies, past the age of 30. I mean those goals can also include coaching and broadcasting.

Or make enough to set your Grandkids up for life before you reach 30.

I mean, if we think other coaches aren't going to use this to negatively recruit against us, you would probably be wrong. It doesn't help, but hopefully Hendon not being 100% healthy gives Coach JH an excuse. I personally think that has more to do with it than scheme like these guys on TV are mentioning. Jmo

Guys on TV as source was a mistake. We just had more guys drafted in the first three rounds than ALL SCHOOLS except 1. CJH and his staff DEVELOPED several NFL guys in the past. This is a big day for Vol recruiting.

I’m wondering if our offense scheme is too simplified for NFL teams and it doesn’t give a player the development they need for the next level. If that’s true, will TN recruitment take a downfall?

None of those guys would’ve been drafted higher in a different scheme. Because none of them were producing in a different scheme

I don't disagree at all. All I was saying, is other schools will "try" to use Hendon Hookers late draft pick against us. I doubt it'll work, but they will try.

They will always try especially those who have so little to sell. Also, the big boys will more because they seem to be threatened more than in the past.

If our opponents attempt to put a negative spin on UT's "system" then a recruit will likely see right thru it and it will favor us ultimately.

Reading forums of the Detroit Lions earlier, drafting HH has the fan base excited and are well aware that it will likely take longer for HH to adapt to their system and most feel he'll be on the bench the 1st. year. I don't think Will Levis' drafting by the titans has Nashville overly excited, (imo). Detroit was able to grab another VFL in the off-season, cornerback Cam Sutton.

Having 5 taken in the first 3 rounds I can't see anyway this isn't a big boost to recruiting. A 1st rounder is icing on the cake. Hearing (name) from the University of Tennessee will catch attention from recruits and their parents, it's going to be heard a lot on Sundays.

Draft position means nothing when compared to their NFL production.

All about fit within an organization. Brock Purdy was the last pick in the draft and balled out. Hooker is going to a good spot in Detroit. Great OC, solid QB in Goff who he can learn from and be a sponge.

As mentioned, I’m bummed for Hyatt. I thought he was 2nd round at worst but his lack of overall skillset outside of speed hurt him. Giants need receivers though and he can definitely provide a weapon for Danny Dimes.

Far from hurting recruiting, Heup and his boys can now walk into every recruit‘s home and state that they just had five players drafted in the first three rounds. That is an indisputable fact that most of our competitors can not make

Where were guys like hooker and Hyatt projected before heupel? If NFL teams think a player is talented enough and he produces he will get drafted high no matter the system they are in.

NFL teams will draft on measurables. Not production. I feel like this group will prove themselves to be exceptionable.

See Will Levis. Has all the talent in the world but his lack of college production hurt him.

As opposed to us running a full pro style offense/defense and getting NOBODY drafted??? Don’t forget where we have been. It could hurt QB recruiting if they don’t want to be top 5 QB drafted. Hmmm

We have put enough players in the league for them to prove themselves. If one of Jones, Tillman or Hyatt breaks out this helps future VOls. Wright is pretty much a shoe-in starter for the bears. Hooker is likely 2-3 years away from seeing the field. I hope Fant and Carvin get a chance also. But it really rides in the WR's to change some minds.. If we can establish a pipeline that would be great and honestly we are on a good path to start dropping 1-2 WR's in the NFL every year. I honestly think people overestimated where Hyatt would go because he had such a good year without noticing his game/tape is very limited. But, the Giants traded up to get him and Tillman was taken the next pick. Hooker dropped a lot because of his ACL. Honestly, I think Hyatt was the only guy whose draft position was affected by the scheme. the others went in the range that should have been expected. I think. QB's were not valued very much in this draft with only 5 taken in the first 3 rounds when many thought there would be 4-5 in round 1.

Does the best offense in the country hurt recruitment? Yes, Nico just hit the portal to vandy…..

In all seriousness the “system” does make us vols fans feel that some receivers are better than they really are. I know I’ll be bashed by the orange glasses crowd but it’s true. Our system found guys like Hyatt routinely wide open without them really having to make moves or evade tacklers. Guys who are paid lots of money to evaluate talent thought Hyatt wasn’t the all around package for the NFL. They do this every year. They prob know a bit more than we do. Time will tell.

NFL judges players on potential and athleticism, a players college offense experience is not significant versus what the NFL thinks they can get a player to produce in their system.

It doesn’t help but Heupel is still a young coach let’s not forget that he still needs to build his resume and prove to these NFL fools that it’s not the system and last year wasn’t a flash in the fan or one hit wonder.

It doesn't hurt at all. The only people on the planet who think Hyatt, Hooker, and Tillman significantly fell in the draft are on this forum (well probably also the players and their families, obviously). Prior to Heupel's arrival, these 3 guys were closer to UDFAs than 3rd round picks. Actually, this should actually help recruiting because he majorly improved their stock.

He was two bad calls away from winning 9 games his first year at Tennessee.

College game has changed so much over the years favoring the offense.

Why would that hurt recruiting? He wins games.

Isn’t that kind of the point?
I think it says more about CJH than anything. Look what he’s accomplished without elite talent. Insert elite talent and………

If you’re a QB in a wishbone offense in college, the scheme could hurt your chances in the NFL. If you can make all the throws, high rates of completions, low rates of INTs, in a P5 conference, the scheme has no chance of hurting you. That’s a myth some programs are trotting out trying to ding Heupel on the recruiting trail. It ain’t working.

I hope that they do not bypass Hendon continuously. Maybe there should be a portal for the pros? They have to give him a shot!

Got to remember these guys weren't recruitied by Heupel...I think they have definitely improved with this staff.. Time will tell with the recruits he brought in and coached up
