Does this hurt recruitment?

I’m wondering if our offense scheme is too simplified for NFL teams and it doesn’t give a player the development they need for the next level. If that’s true, will TN recruitment take a downfall?
All I know is Bama has not had a prominent NFL QB since Kenny Stabler, and that sure hasn't hurt them. Not counting Hurts of course since he finished his career at OK.

Well 3 players who left for greener pastures, got drafted after our top 5. So probably not, Wanya, Eric Gray and To’o To’o.

Well next year could be Heupel's coming out party for QB's. Like I've mentioned before my son is at U of M; therefore I had watched Milton some, and I thought he was worse than Jalen Milroe. So if he can continue to take a sow's ear and turn it into a silk purse..........well you know the rest.

In the words of Gru..."are you pulling on my legs right now?"

Short answer is no, having 5 guys drafted in the first 3 rounds is never a bad thing especially considering none of those guys were on draft radars prior to CJH coming UT but I can see other team’s negative recruiting telling prospects that NFL teams are skeptical how players from UT will adjust to the NFL (specifically the offensive skill positions). What we need now is for Hooker, Hyatt, and Tillman to show out in the NFL.

Our system makes players visible by making them productive. The NFL scouts look at the players during their play against other teams and during pro days and the combine. If the player isn’t producing, no matter what the scheme is they will not get a look. In other words it is a plus to be able to get on the field for CJH.

5 guys in the first theee rounds. Only one or two were highly ranked high schoolers. 4 of this 5 played offense.

Compare to other schools in the first 3 rounds.

How does this hurt? It looks like to me he develeoped guys that werent surefire picks into 1-3 round guys.

STAT WATCH: Tennessee offense leads nation in yards, scoring

Only the football forum on VolNation would spin the most prolific offense in the country (for an 11-2 team), as being any sort of a negative.

... and wasn't Darnell Wright drafted 10th? Didn't he play on offense?

so how does a 2nd year Coach having 5 drafted hurt recruiting, especially knowing where we were 2 years ago?
TBF, it wasn’t a well thought out question to start a thread. Explaining our most reactionary moments is an exercise in futility. 😏

What was Randy Moss’s route tree?

#1. When an argument requires you to jump to extremes, it's probably not a good argument. Randy Moss was drafted in '98. There have been 750(+) WR's drafted since. This isn't the "mic drop" argument you think it is.

#2. I didn't state an opinion. I simply quoted what analysts are saying about him. It doesn't matter if we believe it's a valid factor or not. The people who make these decisions certainly appear to think it is.

I mean, if we think other coaches aren't going to use this to negatively recruit against us, you would probably be wrong. It doesn't help, but hopefully Hendon not being 100% healthy gives Coach JH an excuse. I personally think that has more to do with it than scheme like these guys on TV are mentioning. Jmo
I don't understand what they're going to use against us. That we're 2 years off of a mass exodus after a scandal, went 11-2, beat Florida, beat Bama, beat the ACC Champ? Got 5 players drafted in the 1st 3 rounds that were struggling before Heupel?

Right ... and look, Jalin Hyatt won the 2022 Biletnikoff Award. He was nowhere in sight for such an honor in the preseason. He wasn't even our most highly touted WR. Tillman and McCoy got far more pub. Will that be used against us? This was a really stupid thread.

If you're a top player, you can sell Darnell Wright in the Top 10.

If you're a formerly touted recruit whose path has stalled, you can sell Hendon Hooker as a Top 5 in Heisman votes.

If you were a high ranked players but aren't as highly recruited as you thought you'd be, Biletnikoff winner Jalin Hyatt.

If you're unheralded and flying under the radar, Cedric Tillman.

If you're a JUCO, Bryon Young.

So no, I don't think this draft hurts our recruiting.

The only thing they could say is, "See, even though he was projected to be the Heisman winner during a part of the season, NFL teams don't like the system he runs and that's why he fell to the 3rd". Obviously, Heupel would say, he got injured and his age effected him slipping in the draft. I don't understand how any of yall don't see that point, but I agree with everything else. There's way more positives in the draft than Hendon falling to the 3rd round.

Hendon Hooker was never projected as the favorite for the Heisman Trophy.

The only people who seem to think that our offense is a liability for such things are:

(1) The sports media talking heads who just need something to talk about whether it’s true or not.

(2) The coaches and fans of other teams who heard the fools in the media talking about it (they heard because they sure as heck didn’t READ about it since . . . Well, literacy isn’t common in Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, etc.)

All joking aside, if this program wins enough games in the seasons to come, this kind of talk will diminish.

But seriously, I stand by #2 above. The idiots in those fanbases can’t read. That’s why I chuckle when someone talks about “bulletin board material” with respect to those programs, it’s not like any of them could understand it.

Not sure I completely understand the question. How would having the most successful draft in years hurt recruiting? Seems like it would only help?

Yes he was. Depends on the week obviously but you can Google Hendon Hooker Heisman odds and find multiple projections naming him the favorite during the season when he was healthy. Particularly after beating Bama.
