Domique Allen

Henry County destroyed Dickson County tonight. This game is a big rivalry game and is always tight, not so much this year. Although Dominique Allen was a freak of an athlete for his size, he wasn't as physical as I expected. Teague is a playmaker, and isn't a bad quarterback either. The player I was most impressed with though was #40. I didn't get a program, so I didn't get his name, but this kid was FAST.

So he wasn't physical? And we want this guy to play fullback?

Allen had a decent little game against DC for his standards. Teague was having at least one, sometimes 2 spies on him each play but still managed to rack up a little yardage. Number 40 is the so-called transfer. He's the grandson of the principal, and racked up 1600 yards and all district (3rd team all state also, but don't quote me on that) in missouri. I believe his named to be Lennies McFerrin.

I wouldn't be as surprised if Allen became a Tiger at this point than I'd be if you'd try to tell me that a week ago. From what I've heard, UT's selling the kid on having the chance to be a fullback. Although he has the ideal shape to be a FB, you have to keep in mind that he puts up his gaudy numbers in a spread scheme where he simply bowls over people. The kid can run the ball. His blocking has improved, but unless serious work was done, I'd want him to run the ball more then I'd want him to block. College Football for these kids is a way to get recognition, an education, and possibly a job making serious figures on Sundays. IF he really could get the ball and playing time at LSU (which I wouldn't completely buy into being that it IS Les Miles we're talking about..), then I wouldn't blame him one bit for jumping ship. It's all about his personal gain - at least if I was in his shoes I'd look at it that way. Hopefully UT will be able to keep this young man, and on top of that be able to cart in his cousin, Marsalis. I'd hate to see even more in-state talent just slip away.

I bet this kid goes to LSU. Les Miles is a slick talker and he will probably convince him to come there. I trust Miles about as far as I could throw him, and that isn't very far!

Yes I agree, Miles is a slick talker....."hey kid, you should come down to LSU, we have won 2 nat'l championships in the last 5 years. We put out a competitive product every year, and you have an opportunity to redshirt for one year, and then be a bull rusher in a similar mold of Jacob Hester."

Let's just admit currently they have a better product going on down there (kudos and move on )

This kids future is not as a TB.

I just don't think I can completely agree with that. Allen busted open a 75 yard TD run last night on a simple draw up the middle where he cut it to the sidelines, juked one defender and then stiff armed another. Fullbacks rarely do that. That's almost standard protocol for Allen. I'm not trying to make it seem like we'd be losing the next Barry Sanders, but sometimes you have to think outside the box and look at what he can do when you give him the ball.

Plenty of guys that play FB in college were capable of doing that in HS.

So with your logic, just because he's big means he has no future at TB. Do you realize that he's a better runner than blocker, and that the FB got one carry monday night? I honestly don't know what Allen will do, but if I was him I'd go to where I could play my true position. He's put up these stats against some decent competition - There will be a school that will give him a chance to run the ball. I just hope it's Tennessee.

No that's not my logic. Where did I ever say he would be a FB just because he was big, seriously.

Yes, I am. Well, let me rephrase that - I follow the team very closely along with 2 others. But what does that have to do with your reasoning for him not being able to be a TB at the college level?

Look, I've seen him play and wasn't overly impressed. He plays decent competition at best, and plenty of college FBs were TBs in high school. Do I think he can run the ball in college? Yes. Do I think he can be a pure TB? No. JMO though, I'm no professional talent evaluator and don't claim to be. Just stating my opinion, no reason to get all upset.

Understandable. I don't know if I could see him as an every-down back, but I certainly think he would complement creer or hardesty at least decently. And while his region is not exactly stacked talent-wise, he has had his fair share of yards against Memphis teams - especially Melrose, who is always known for their stingy defense.

the smack that he talked about our use of the fb has kind of soured me on this kid
