Dooley sucks (merged)

well La Tech is Dooley's comparison to Saban's MSU...and Dooley went 17-20 there

Saban went 34-24 at MSU, so if Saban was 17-20 I don't think he gets hired at LSU...

In fact with this round of coaching openings, I'll wager that no one gets hired with a HC record at or below what Dooley's was when we hired him...

OSU- Urban Meyer....104-23
Wash State- Mike Leach.....84-43
Kansas- Charlie Weiss......35-27
North Carolina- Larry Fedora.....33-19
UCLA- Jim Mora Jr- 31-33

This thread started when Dooley was hired over his overall record With all due respect if overall record is the best you have then think again.

Several of you are going to point out the flaws this season and last.

Also look at the mess the Dooley inherited. It takes more than TWO seasons to fix that. He should at least be here to see his first class as seniors. I realize that might not happen.

Go back and look at Johnny Majors record at Iowa State. Also look at George Welsh at Navy. And yes even Coach K. Using a current coach look at Brady Hoke's record at Ball State.

The point is IMO overall record is not a factor. Once the pieces of the puzzle are in place then things will change.

Using legendary coaches' records is not a valid argument. I think the vast number of coaches who start poorly, end poorly as well. A handful of examples does not change this. Everyone in the NBA is tall, but not everyone who is tall plays in the NBA.

I think the point is that Saban and Coach K weren't being thought of as legendary coaches at those points in there careers.

I have no idea if Dooley is going to be successful or not but I don't think he is in over his head. He's smart, understanding the administration side of things, and can recruit. He got us to play over our heads at LSU last year and got royally screwed at the MCB to end the season.

Last year you could have put Brady Hoke at 47-50 in there. Someone you would have never hired because he wasn't Fulmer-worthy in your eyes.

You could have also put Chizik's record of 5-19 in there a few years ago, someone you would have never hired who has as many NC's as Fulmer does.

Chizik would still be on most people's "Do Not Hire" list

You are what your record says you are. That will never change.

Already living on borrowed time. Cecil Newton's church is the best purchase Chizik has ever made.

What all of this boils down to is that you need to excite three audiences if you're going to have a successful progam: the fans; the recruiting prospects; and the media. There are two ways to accomplish this goal. Either you win or you make big bold moves so that it at least appears that you're doing everything humanly possible to make the program a winner. Giving a guy with no significant history of success 4-5 years to try and slowly build up a program does not satisfy the criteria of making big bold moves so that it at least appears that you're doing everything humanly possible to make the program a winner. That's the reason that we will either be headed to a meaningful bowl game or have a new head coach a year from now. It's going to be one or the other.

The best thing about this thread title...

go ahead and thorw out the Chizik record, as if you don't know as well as everyone else that Newton's dad, was paid for him to play at Auburn...

Also watch Auburn struggle with the loss of Gus

How many NC's does Chizik have? I guess he has a lifetime appointment to be Auburn's coach now? The same way the Fulmer pumpers wanted CPF to always be here and never leave?

you should really go read about chiziks coaching record before you just get on here and spout off...its amazing how in love with dooley you are givin the results he has had while here at ut but to win a national championship in your second year as a head coach at a new school kinda blows the whole "rebuilding" or "not his players" argument out of the water...you know, just 2 of the 10000 excuses that people use on here for why dooley has been sucking it up ever since he came here.

well 2 of the biggest contributors to that NC were his recruits. Of course he also stepped into a similar situation with attrition, etc. and had a terrible OC. Watch what happens in the next 2-3 years once this all starts falling apart. Heck it may not take 2-3 years before AU is searching again

show me where I've said he deserves a lifetime contract...what he deserves is respect for what he accomplished at Tennessee..

and what we as Fans deserved from the previous AD, was for him to hire a successful coach
