Dooley Wants Safeties at 215#+

Apparently it is, because you missed it completely. Would you like me to now list all the badass safeties that were 200 lbs or less in college?

Dooley likes bigger safeties. Saban likes bigger safeties. It's a philosophy thing. Like I said... get a life.

Rahim Moore is pretty awesome at about 195. All of 5 pounds heavier than Jackson.

And he would be starting here. Like I said, there are safeties that are freaks like Black and Moore that can play at lower weights and still be successful. For the most part, bigger safeties are the route to go especially in the SEC with the physical pounding they will have to take.

I think the point emain is getting at is that size isn't the problem with the safeties, it's a problem with technique and their inability to properly tackle.

I'll take Banks back, I think that he is playing CB now.

Kid can still hold his own when tackling.

Dooley wants big safeties plain and simple. Janzen is a shutdown CB playing FS. If you guys can't see that you're blind. Also i'd like to see Teague and Jackson as the starters at CB next season with Waggner at the nickel. Loften should hopefully get in and be able to play alongside Brewer or maybe Randolph.

Exactly. The kid has 22 tackles, 13 assisted. Bigger safeties are the way to go because most guys Janzen's size are not going to be consistent tacklers.

I don't have any problem with that, but to think that there aren't plenty of safeties out there that are around the same size as the guys we have that can actually tackle is absurd.

And I am telling you that's bunk. Moore is the perfect example.

Give us all the guys that are 190 that are beasts at safeties. More than not they are going to be bigger. I didn't hear Dooley say that if there is a freak that is 190 playing S that they wouldn't keep him there. He is right in that most of the time, bigger safeties are the route to go. If there is a kid out there that is 190 that plays like Berry, then guess what Dooley will have him at safety.

And guess what Moore would be at S here. However, there are not many Moore's out there.

That's fine. Most of those guys you listed aren't legitimately 205+ either. I would damn near bet the farm on that.

That's fine. I was only arguing the absurdity of the comment. You guys jumped on me for it, and that's your problem.

We jumped on you because you are taking it so literally. He wants bigger safeties that was his only point. And on your other point, Janzen is not a legit 190 either.

Reading emains arguement is like watching a kid try and put a square shape in a round hole..... entertaining and timeless...

So? It's like the other poster said, 215 was a Chavis linebacker. Tennessee has traditionally had smaller guys in the secondary, and there have been plenty of good tackling safeties on those defenses in the past.

Tackling has been a huge problem for the past decade at TN. Our LBs and DBs have not been good tacklers in a long time. BTW, Berry was not a sound tackler a lot of times. He loved laying the big hits, and we were all wowed. However, he lost a lot of discipline going after big hits all the time.
