Doug Mathews "Big Orange Sunday" takeaways

When Fulmer hired Clawson as OC he was given exactly one year to turn things around with spread concepts and pro style personnel. This has booster influence written all over it! CPF responded by recruiting Tajd Boyd and Bryce Petty who Kiffin jettisoned to reinstall a pro set. Down the rabbit hole we went. Some will say there's plenty of blame to go around. Nope. HOH is to blame.

QFT - wish I could like this more.

I just listened to nearly an hour long stream of unceasing lies. It's inbred homers like Mathews who caused the collapse of UT. I get that Matthews is a shill for the university but my God. That was revisionist history at its very worst. He painted Fulmer as Jesus incarnate, Currie as the single, satanic architect of our embarrassment, the Haslams as generous boosters who've accomplished wonderful things at UT, Peyton as Phillip's loyal son, Davenport as a fledgling chancellor who made a mistake hiring Currie but who has learned from her mistake and will provide divine leadership henceforth.

It's just putrid. We had a chance to escape the cycle of dumbassery, but instead we gleefully jumped right back into Big Papa Plump's lap like spineless house dogs. DePietro, Davenport, and Fulmer all need to be shown the door. Purge the House of Haslam once and for all.

I had been looking forward to the game tonight versus Georgia Tech all week, but I don't think I can pull for an athletic department led by Judas Brutus. I'll just have a few beers and watch the NFL. This university is floating face down dead in the water, and Phillip Fulmer was the chief saboteur.
Please......tell us how you REALLY FEEL. Wow

God I'm hoping the heros, Basilio and Clay, who prevented the hire of Schiano get on board and demand Fulmer be removed from this search and this university for good. There is a ton of evidence he is allied with Haslam and torpedoed the Leach deal. Fulmer is no friend of Tennessee. He is the obese saboteur of our demise.

You're way off base. Haslam let Hamilton fire Fulmer. Haslam wanted Currie's assistant AD to replace Currie.

Mike Hamilton has admitted that UT let him make the decision on firing Fulmer. If Kiffin had worked out, he'd still be the guy here. Fulmer isn't fighting the Haslams.

This, imo, is the reason former head coaches should not be the AD. Phil should hire the best coach available, NOT one that will allow Phil to influence the offense the new coach runs.
Hiring a coach that runs what Phil thinks will work is NOT the answer.

Great idea, let’s go hire another administrator for AD who knows nothing about football.

I would take your advice except that Barnes showed he cares absolutely nothing about UT or us fans by defending Currie and trashing the fan base after the Mercer game. He should take us to an NCAA tournament before he starts offering opinions.

Man I can't do it. I literally hate these people. They have ruined my favorite hobby. Fire Barnes too. Just make an announcement that Tennessee is starting over from scratch due to the systemic infiltration of a booster whose influence has led to a marked decline in the quality of Tennessee athletics. Announce that we will be hiring new coaches and heading in a different direction.

So you don’t like Barnes because he coached at another school and isn’t loyal to TN. And you don’t want Fulmer because he’s an old TN guy and is loyal to the university. Makes perfect sense.

I love a pro set smash mouth offense, but we are 3-4 recruiting cycles and the same amount of time under a good S&C coach from having a roster that can pull that off. If that is what we are committed to running, I hope people have a lot of patience to wait on it.

I think the coach that could produce the quickest results with what we have would be Leach and his Air Raid attack. Dormady could really thrive in that offense and we enough decent receivers to run it.

Of course, a quick fix shouldn’t be the end game, we need something sustainable. I’d be interested to see what Leach could do with the kind of athletes he could get at Tennessee.

What the hell was Barnes supposed to do, forfeit the game after instructing the team to walk off the court during the National Anthem?? There's one thing I hate about UT's fanbase, going from one extreme to another..Reading a dictionary and posting 10-20 letter words doesn't make YOU Jesus incarnate either..Cheer or don't cheer, that's on you..But just stop with the "Know-it-all Holier Than Thou" horses**t..All it does is stink....

This post is just IMHFO

At the time, Currie was Barnes boss. What's he supposed to say? As a basketball coach, jump into a football squabble, bash your boss, drop mic and be glad you pleased half a divided fan base? Barnes is smarter than that.

Also thinks whoever he hires will use a system that goes under center and uses two tightend sets. Power football, not razzle dazzle hocus pocus. More pro style sets. Look more like the Tennessee of the past.

Somewhere Mose Phillips is smiling.

Not just that, but my read on what Barnes did and said was to speak up for his players. Those guys are playing some pretty good basketball. Yet, to see it from their perspective, we had fans show up to their game to complain about the handling of the football team. That’s not really fair to the basketball team, and Barnes spoke up.

Even ignoring all that, it is entirely possible that Currie could’ve simultaneously mangled the football search and have been good to and for the basketball program. No need for Barnes to crap in his nest. Further, If Currie has been allowed to stay, Barnes drawing a line in the sand could make the b-ball team persona non grata. If Currie was booted, if Barnes had openly criticized his boss, he risks being viewed as a liability from the new hire’s perspective.

In other words, there is no good reason for Barnes to publicly criticize his boss, no matter what he feels. And, there are plenty of reasons for him to do what he did, if only to show his players he’s on their side while they’re busting their tails and winning games.

Yes i know the Oregon razzle dazzle is popular with the younger kids. I like power football though, i'm old fashioned. Tennessee was better when they could knock someone off the ball, not trick them because they couldn't.

Tennessee was better when they had staffs that developed players and didn't give games away with bone headed decisions.

Butch's system put up record offensive stats. The scheme wasn't the problem.

I want the power football of old. It was awesome getting a lead and watching the opposing team unable to stop the run. TN would run a toss sweep that was unstoppable. That was TN football. Back in the nineties, I spoke to a former FL player. He said that TN was always their most physical game. I want the physical TN of yesteryear back.

That’s what I am expecting and afraid of!.
Coming up on 2018, we need 2018 coaches and style to compete with the best!

The best play ball control offense and good defense. That is what TN of 10 years ago did best. None of this RPO crap...line up and push the men off the ball.
