Doug Matthews On Tennessee Vols 2015 Recruiting Class

The # I saw someone saw he mentioned was 6 silent. I think it was said Picou and Smith were not part of those 6. I'd imagine Kamara was.

He then mentioned the 5 UT is holding spots for. He said he felt good about Phillips, McKenzie, and Jefferson. He did not feel as good about Richmond and McGraw.

I suppose that could account for 4 of his 6 claimed silents.

He said they may try to add 2 more LBs and names Sapp and Adkinson. He actually names Sapp twice. Maybe both he thinks are silent? I could see Sapp at least as very likely. That would make 5 silents.

He then says 2 CBs. Ordway, Martin. Could one of these buys be the 6th? Maybe both are and Sapp is up in the air?

I could see it playing out as accurate in the end. JMO

I like your line of thinking. Assuming Matthews is connected (and I believe he is with this staff), here's my thoughts on his 6 silents:

Kamara - Was one of the 6. Too much smoke not to be.
McKenzie - Vol lock from the day he was born
Martin - Loves him some UT
Sapp - where there's smoke...
Jefferson - Mom and dad are on board now
Phillips - Visited us too many times not to be a lock

I have to think Ordway is a lock too, but maybe just not a silent. I can't wait to see how this all plays out.

You're correct. I think we were desperate for a juco linebacker. I hope we keep to signing only EE juco from here on out. It's a good rule.

I agree, JUCO's being EE's is definitely the best way to go. Actually, everyone being an EE would be ideal.

For me its got nothing to do with Gibson. DM is not a coach and is not on the coaching staff. Unless it comes from them, I don't believe anything a media personality says. How many times have they been wrong? Plenty. I trust in the coaches and thats all.

Because coaches and honesty go hand-in-hand? Ridiculous.

I would be happy to just get the #'s of the graduating class to be the amount of EEs. We won't turnover 25 guys every year. Jucos should be EEs, so they could get in shape. It'll help Williams and Blair big time.

He straight up said he DID NOT get this from anyone inside the program. He admits he is basing it on Why are people ignoring what came out his mouth?

So he doesn't have anything to gain or lose. He made a guess and is sticking to it. That is all. He didn't get this from inside info.

People are basically saying he's lying to cover up the fact that he does have inside staff info.

If he came out publicly and admitted inside info, then he would become a defacto recruiting Press Secretary. The staff would never allow that for competitive and probably NCAA rules reasons.

DM would then be cut off and he would have to follow "colder" leads for recruiting info like everyone else out there. That is difficult, less accurate and more expensive work.

I personally have no idea whether he's lying about "inside sources" or not. But, this kind of thing goes on all the time with the info stream. Watch a White House Press Secretary cover, lie, and dodge honest answers on a daily basis for a clear example.

Hang on his every word if you like. Maybe he's that honest. But, I have my reservations.

Yeah its much better to trust these media guys who are "connected." They are much more honest. Talk about ridiculous.

no after a few years on this site its ridiculous seeing you young posters (young as in new to this site) come in and act like you know everything and you are correct and everyone else is wrong.

go VOLS!!

KMA!!

just saying.

The jury will be out on the contested issue, Torrance Gibson, until NSD.

That being said Matthews is MUCH more in tune with this staff than he was the previous regime. He is typically very conservative and knowledgeable. If he's saying it over the airways then I'm comfortable in saying that he didn't fabricate it out of whole cloth.

I admittedly don't know that much. Thats why I say trust the coaches because they know more than everyone on this site combined.

There is probably some truth in his comments. It's not gonna go down exactly like he says because he can't predict what these kids will do. I'm starting to believe the smoke around TG. You guys don't want to imagine a scenario where we tell a 5 star to look elsewhere, but that might just be the case here. Going to be interesting to see how it plays out. The division and emotions remind me of Gruden. Not a bad thing guys, it's what brought me to the site. Peace!!!

Why would you put that information out there, for every coach in America to know what your recruiting plans are? It's only the end of June and there is still 7 months of recruiting left and why would he single out TG about having issues? CBJ may not want TG in this class but I find it hard to believe that he would let everyone know the reason was issues, instead of not having room for him. I don't buy this, it's telling other kids there is no room for you, it's too late.

I would be ok missing on TG. Kelley Washington and DaRick Rogers should remind us that talent alone doesn't make a great team mate.

Tell me the last time you got recruiting info from a UTcoach? You keep saying this, but coaches aren't allowed to talk recruiting.

You can blindly believe what ever radio show host, sports reporter or person who says they have a "source" all you want. I don't believe any of them. The numbers always work out. The coaches know what they are doing and thats what I mean. In the end, I trust whatever they work out as far as who we are taking.

Why do you post on this board then? It's an honest question. If you don't believe what anyone says, what's the point?

I'm not gonna blindly believe anything someone says, but DM has knowledge of the program. There is value in what he brings. Is he always gonna be correct? Hell no, but he knows a lot about what's going on that an average fan doesn't. Of course the coaches know what they're doing, but they're not gonna tell us about it.

For instance, the father of a current player is a customer of mine. He's told me some things about Dooleys tenure that I never would have known about. Because he's not a coach I should tell him he's full of sh!t?

It truly saddens me to see what this forum has devolved from.

It's followed the general path of most internet forums to the tee. At first people congregated simply to discuss sports and have fun. Now it's nothing but self righteous delusional narcissists that spend huge amounts of time waiting for someone to pounce on for stating an opinion different from their own.

It's called the offseason. We're antsy for some football.

He has knowledge of the program. Good. He brings value, fine. But to just believe what he says on the sole fact that he has knowledge is just something I am not going to do. Come NSD could everything he has reported throughout be correct? Of course. At the same time he could be totally wrong.

You believe what you want and I will believe what I want. As far as your customer goes, no you shouldn't tell him he is full of it. If it were me I would be nice to him and thank him for sharing the info. I would take it with a grain of salt until I verified the info. But that's me. How you handle it is your business. How I believe is my business.

Please do tell.

SportTalk in Chattanooga had a guy on last week who was on the football "staff" (not coach). He told several personal stories @ things that happened under Dooley. Bewildering that he got in the door. Head scratching stuff.

I know DD is a scapegoat and easy to pile on. But inside reports are interesting.
