Phillips - Visited us too many times not to be a lock

I have to think Ordway is a lock too, but maybe just not a silent. I can't wait to see how this all plays out.

Example(s) of Matthews being wrong? Chris Weatherd is the closest example I can think of and he's still not wrong about him yet.

What do you expect him to say? "Butch told me...." Like it or not, Doug has connections with this staff. I would be shocked if most of "his opinions" aren't based directly on his conversations with those in the know.

For the sake of accuracy, Matthews didn't call those 5 guys (Phillips, McKenzie, Ordway, McGraw, Jefferson) "silents" .... he said UT is "holding scholarships for those guys" because they're all "plan A".

Which is ironic because that provides some validity to DM's comments. Doesn't mean that everything he said will be true, but it shows he knows something.

I am not sure how this thread got to this point, but based on his comments about the numbers last year, it is clear he is getting some information. People have the right to take it how they want, but he is more informed than many, many on this board. Maybe we should all just stop posting and let the real insiders discuss.

Let me say this is just based on reading between the lines from DM's quotes. Not saying if he is or isn't, just that his quotes point to it. You an insider?

Yes, it appears he is Phillips' cousin/family member. And again, for clarity, Matthews never called Phillips or the other 4 silent commits, just priorities that the staff is holding scholarships for.

I was simply drawing from DM saying that Phillips along with McKenzie and Jefferson will be Vols. Again, I am just putting two and two together from his previous quotes of 6 silents. These names vary, so I was just taking a stab at it from what he has mentioned. Your thoughts on the silents?

I don't know. It appears we're in very good shape with both McKenzie and Jefferson. IF we do have any silent commits I'd guess those are the 2.

Ha what don't you buy about that?? Have you seen how they're handling Pig Howard?? There will be no primadonnas in this class or any other while CBJ is at the helm. No head cases or shenanigans either. We don't want another Da'Rick Rogers. He has been kicked off his HS team for crying out loud. Do you honestly think that this coaching staff would go back on their word that they have been preaching to this class for two years by bringing in someone who can violate the rules or do whatever they want.

No one will be above the law in this program moving forward. The way that they have handled Mr. Howard is evidence of that. Leading receiver on the team from the previous year and they have basically held him out of everything up until now.

DM isnt your typical Media Personality he never blows his own horn, and if you listen to his show, he is one of the few that says over and over again that he is just guessing. He is tight with the staff and university so he provides good info.
As far as trusting in the coaches not sure how you can do that since they dont talk about recruiting till Feb 1. Maybe they are calling you or sending you private messages

Agree Jett. Not saying this staff might not take the occasional calculated risk, but they recruit more to a profile than just a star ranking. It appears that Gibson's off the field baggage (getting kicked out of his highschool, his reported poor grades, his diva social media personality, etc) supersedes his recruiting rank and doesn't fit Butch's player profile for the team he is trying to build.

He occasionally states that he is guessing based on the information he has. He also is clear to state when he has heard straight from Butch's or one of the coaches' mouth(s). I've also heard Bob Welton on his Big Orange Sunday program. Doug was a coach at UT for 10 years, has had a radio show dedicated just to UT for many years and has very good access to our current staff and athletic department. Each fan can decide to accept the information he provides but I don't know of a more credible source of information on the radio.
