Down goes Arkansas

I think our chances of winning this thing just skyrocketed.

Just curious,,,,, how or why does this "skyrocket" or help our chances in Omaha? Seeing "the best" (as has been thought all year) get beat when that team has been near totally dominant in the SEC all season, doesn't look to me like it helps us win it all. That is other than we would not have to face them again. (only the team that beat them 2 out of 3)

Not a good look for DVH, he panicked, then he choked! How do you think the guys who contributed for Arkansas all year felt when DVH told them, you won't be throwing a single pitch in this series, we're going with Kopps? Conversely, I loved what CTV did, he did the same thing we've done all year, and let the chips fall where they may.

Hate it for Kopps...helluva pitcher!

Kopps, he couldn't do it all. He pitched well enough to beat any team. BUT he is just one part of a TEAM. The remainder of the team actually lost this game. Few hits, few runs, no win. Just like football no TDs no win even if the defense only allows 2-3 points or ,,,, oh well you understand.

I agree, but per the rotation, shouldn't Hefin have started that game?

You hold a team like NC State to three runs, you've more than done your job. This loss was on the offense.

I always said Vandy scared me more than Arky...they overachieved imo...they played good fundamental ball, had a shut down reliever but they were not a great hitting team at times...only one player above 300 and he was late season replacement 20210613_185657.jpg

In college baseball this is more so the case. Upsets can happen when you are in a format that involves double elimination and best two of three series. Less chance for upsets in post season professional baseball with series being best of 5 and 7.
That may have been the case before the Wildcard was brought along but even then whenever you consider the entirety of the history of the World Series, the best team in MLB rarely wins it all.

  • Of the 116 World Series that have been played, just 52 have been won by the team with the best record in the regular season. To the extent that best regular season record signifies best team, said best team has won the World Series just 44.8 percent of the time.
  • From 1969 through 1993, when the postseason consisted of two rounds (the LCS and the World Series), the best team in the regular season won the World Series just 36 percent of the time.

  • Since 1995, when the Division Series first appeared on the scene and gave us a third round of postseason play, the best team in the regular season has won the World Series just 26.9 percent of the time. That's including last season.

Amen, they had some “seeing eye hits”, when they beat Tidwell in Knoxville to win series and UT just didn’t have the pitching in the tourney, due to the Bama home cooking. The “horseshoe “ fell outa their hind ends this time. Later Pigs....Sooooey long

Hopefully it will be a great tournament for the Vols but the aces for Vandy will be a challenge for everyone. As the ole saying goes “congrats on making the tournament but while you’re here ….you might as well win it right?” If this BaseVol season hasn’t lit your fire….your wood is wet! Keep it rolling Vols!
The rotation gets taxed in Omaha because the games are closer together. They may be vulnerable if we meet them in the championship, especially if they have to come out of the Losers Bracket. Winners Bracket #1 should go Saturday, Monday, Friday, Saturday (If Necessary). Winners Bracket #2 should go Sunday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday (If Necessary). Then a day off before the championship round where all the games are played in consecutive days.

I have to agree here. Yes, I was dreading a rematch with Ark, but now you've substituted NC State in their place. They looked pretty good to me. I worry about Vandy, not just because they are good, but also because, if we lose to them, I will fold up like an cheap lawn chair and keep asking "why can't we have nice things?"

I’m not so sure Arkansas losing is a good thing for Tennessee. We wouldn’t have had to play them or Vanderbilt until the best 2 out of 3 championship. I’d rather play Arkansas in that format than Vandy, given Vandy’s 2 aces. And now I don’t know who will beat Vandy on that side. At least, not twice.

If Arkansas had survived, they might’ve at least exchanged losses with Vanderbilt, draining each other’s pitching a little.

Ole Miss losing might’ve been even worse for Tennessee. They had Vandy’s number and would’ve been on Vandy’s side of the bracket. Ideally, Arkansas still loses, but Ole Miss makes it in, knocks Vandy out, then chokes against someone else. Like maybe Tennessee.
If Arizona keeps swinging like they have been the last few weeks, then they could give Rocker and Leiter trouble. They’re very patient at the plate from what I saw this weekend. They had Nikhazy at 114 pitches through 5 innings Saturday while losing 12-2. Make Rocker and Leiter throw you strikes, both are suspect to walks if you don’t give them swinging strikes.

Their saving grace was/is the same as ours; anybody can go deep at anytime. When you have the ability to get back in games with 1 swing you’re never out.

I think our chances of winning this thing just skyrocketed.
Winning Sunday will definitely raise our chances. Winning Sunday and Monday would elevate our chances greatly to get to the championship series. Vandy and Texas losing one of those days would be excellent as well. In other words, there is a lot of baseball left to play.

True. Of course, Rocker’s strike zone tends to be about a foot wider than anyone else’s.

I thought this Arkansas team was, if not the best, one of the best college teams I've ever seen. The sobering question for hog fans is if Van Horn can't win it all with this team, can he ever win it?

Yea, he can but IMO this loss is squarely on him.

The way we are hitting and the way Hogs are pitching, right now, I like our chances in a 3 game series.

Yep. We've seen all of their pitchers and faced Kopps 3 times.

I would rather have faced Hogs than Wolfpack.

They’ve also seen ours. And Kopps is one of those pitchers that you know what’s coming and you still can’t hit it.

After the SECTCG, I was convinced we wouldn’t beat them again if we played in Omaha.

That was one game with us coming out of the losers bracket.

I like our chances in a 3 game series.
