Duke-Maryland

3/4 of them have no idea what is going on in the game. They are obnoxious, not awesome. Not to mention they are all a bunch of super-white pimply goofy kids.

Much like the basketball team.
I would wager that Duke puts forth as much effort as any school in the nation to diversify its student body.

I would also wager than obnoxious is exactly what they're after. Having a crowd full of basketball analyst types would do nothing for them, but having absurdly decorated, obnoxiously loud people definitely enhances their homecourt advantage.

We'd love for our student section / fans to make TBA as difficult to play in.

Fantastic. You and Windy should be fast friends. Enjoy the banter.

No thanks. Windy's idea of baking is probably to warm up a bunch of Pillsbury eat-n-heat rolls and hose them down with that fake spray margarine stuff. Ingest while thumbing through the sports page, looking for another bandwagon to jump on...

come on, take one for the team, bro.

think about how much less basketball and football she'll be able to drone on about.

Over the past three years I'm willing to bet we have a higher home winning pct. than Duke.

have no idea, but if we do, I'm betting our advantage is very slight and we haven't played the level of competition at home that they have.

We do. Ours is 95.3% theirs around 90%. They have lost to some teams that they had no business losing to.

We also include a 27 game home winning streak.

I'd say our home court advantage is fine without being a bunch of super-white pimply obnoxious kids.

:eek:lol:

Obnoxious is what makes a good home crowd. I like having classy fans, but well, Team America has a good analogy I can't use here to explain what makes a good fanbase.

In the next 39 days you will need to save up about a grand for an average seat for that game. Best bet is to wait until next season and pick a game during holiday break when there's less demand for tickets. Non-conference games are much easier to score tix.
bingo....absolutely right..

Cameron is a huge homecourt advantage for many reasons:

1) It's loud (b/c it's small).

2) It's hot (b/c it's small).

3) It's cramped (b/c it's small). Students literally are inches away from players as they throw the ball inbounds.

4) The students sit right next to the court, on both sides, and make lots of noise throughout the game. In other words, their noise is directed at the court. It has nowhere to go, and it comes from all sides. If UT students claimed the first 6 rows around TBA, they would make as much noise as Duke students. I bet there are significantly more UT students at TBA than Duke students at Cameron. (prob. something like 3,500 UT - 3,000 Duke)

However, their clever lines have no bearing on the games at all. It may be entertaining, but not part of the homecourt advantage.

A bit of trivia about the Cameron Crazies:

During one game in the late 80s at Cameron, the Duke students chanted "J-R-can't-read" for UNC star JR Reid. Dean Smith subsequently produced the SAT scores of JR Reid and Scott Williams, which both were higher than those of Danny Ferry and Christian Laettner.

Backtalk; As a Legend Steps Down, A Big 'Amen' - New York Times

Apparently JR could read. Well enough to play at Duke.

Me and my friend found tickets to the UNC game awhile back, but can't make a round trip like that, we're too young. We could get our parents to pay for them, but just can't get transportation

This ain't advice, just a suggestion:

Greyhound. If you secure UNC-Duke tix at Cameron, it might be worth it. Find a way to get to that game, young man!

You could find transportation, but it might cost you some extra dough. When I was 14, I paid off my 19-year-old neighbor to watch the Hoosiers play in the Final Four (Atlanta 2002).

Comparing UT's home schedule to Duke's over the past three years is laughable at best. Records might show a 5% increase for UT, but what does SOS show? Also interesting that you choose to pick the worst years talent wise Duke has had in about 12 years. You can maybe say Duke shouldn't have lost to FSU last year, but who else are you referring to in this 3 year span?

Their SOS are actually very similar. Duke #1, UT #6 in 05-06. Duke #3, UT #5 06. This year: Duke #38, UT #2.

Wanna keep calling it laughable?

Games they SHOULD NOT have lost at home: Virginia Tech, FSU, and Maryland.

I also choose the last three years because that is since Bruce got here. It had nothing to do with Duke's talent level... But as this is a home court advantage discussion.... their slight dip in talent shouldn't have hurt Duke at home that much, considering how big of an advantage those 'Crazies' are.

yeah, when you compare the talent, it's still laughable. Duke hasn't had a serious threat the past two years and their record shows it. Losses to UNC, Maryland and Marquette are just totally inexcusable. No one should lose to top teams.

Maryland is not a top team, neither is Va Tech, or FSU.

please explain how a team that finished 25-9 that year is not a top team?

Look at how they started. They had a nice run to end their season, hardly a 'top team.'

Not to mention this argument was about the Cameron Crazies and the home court advantage. I have used facts and figures to prove my argument. Without a bunch of pimply white goofy looking kids, UT has a 95% home record in the past three years. Duke 88%. Their SOS's are incredibly similar, except for this year when UT's is much much higher than Duke's....

Those Crazies must not be as crazy as people think.

or again, it could be the huge dropoff in talent on the court at Duke.

Which would indicate that the Crazies have hardly anything to do with their home court advantage and was more about the talent level at duke as I said in THIS post earlier:

That has much more to do with officiating, and the quality of teams Duke has put out in the past than the Cameron Crazies.
