I don’t think Duke deserved a 2 seed even though I see their ceiling as being a National Champion. Same with UK. I have not given the brackets a second look since they were released, but based off my initial reaction I think the Vols being placed where they were has an easier path to the final than Duke or Kentucky. Since this is also a UNC Thread, I see Baylor being a very tough matchup for them if they get past Marquette, who I believe beat them in Chapel Hill last year.Kentucky is a joke of a 2nd seed, and Duke is highly questionable as well when you consider that they've dropped 2 of their last 4 games by double digits. You're correct about the East. It is loaded.
This is not what the committee is supposed to do. “Designing” paths that are easier or harder than others. That’s pure ********. And sorry to invade the confines of this thread but if Duke’s ceiling is a national champion then it means they’re getting help along the way which is exactly what happened today with seeding.I don’t think Duke deserved a 2 seed even though I see their ceiling as being a National Champion. Every metric the committee supposedly uses in seeding fails Duke as a 2 seed. Only 6 Q1 wins, 3 Q2 losses and 1 Q3 loss! They rank 11th in the team sheet resume metrics, and 11th in the quality metrics. And 13th in the vaunted NET! Literally every one of these metrics which the committee has purposeful put on the team sheets indicates they should be a 3 seed. TENNESSEE ranks ahead of them in every single category.Kentucky is a joke of a 2nd seed, and Duke is highly questionable as well when you consider that they've dropped 2 of their last 4 games by double digits. When I say Duke’s ceiling is a national championship, it means that they are capable of winning the whole thing, just like Tennessee. I personally think Duke’s path to the Final Four is more difficult than Tennessee’s, regardless of seedlings. I don’t think I’m the only one that sees it that way. If Duke wins in the first round they play Davidson or Michigan St. Both of those teams are coached by HOF’s, one of whom has a National Title and multiple final four appearances. Texas Tech is a possible matchup in the sweet 16 and then Gonzaga who Duke already beat once. That‘s a tough draw. This is not what the committee is supposed to do. “Designing” paths that are easier or harder than others. That’s pure ********. Michigan St and Davidson are 40/41 in KenPom Michigan and Colorado St are 31/33. Villanova is also better than Texas Tech by all metrics, and Tennessee also beat Arizona once already. I don’t think it can really be said that Duke has a harder road than Tennessee. When I say Duke’s ceiling is a national championship, it means that they are capable of winning the whole thing, just like Tennessee. I personally think Duke’s ceiling is higher than Tennessee. They have more talent. However, Duke’s issue is that they rarely play to their raw talent level. A big part of that is that they don’t have strong senior leadership on the team. Their go-to players in crunch time haven’t been through the wars, and they often don’t function well as a cohesive unit in tight games. Tennessee plays better as a team. When I say Duke’s ceiling is a national championship, it means that they are capable of winning the whole thing, just like Tennessee. Good for Michigan and Colorado State. Michigan is 17-14, their coach has coached 1 of the last 6 games because of his suspension. I honestly don’t know much about Colorado State, but I do think I’d prefer to play against a 17-14 Michigan team or CSU than a Tom Izzo or Bob McKillop coached team. That’s my opinion, obviously you don’t share it, but that’s the way I see it .Michigan St and Davidson are 40/41 in KenPom Michigan and Colorado St are 31/33. This is Coach K’s last year so it was kind of expected that the NCAA would try to make it easy on Duke.
I do agree though. They’re extremely talented but lack the senior leadership on the biggest stage.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Izzo take them out early.
