Dy'shawn Mobley

I find it amazing at how many blind assessments people make on this forum. Not only on his talent, but also his character.

Keep in mind that Dyshawn Mobley must be a pretty good running back to have gotten all-camp honors at Kentucky and Mississippi State as a RB. He also was first team honorable mention (offense) at the junior U.S. Army All American combine, which showed that he was one of the best RB in attendance at that combine. His lowest 40 time recorded was in the 4.4's and I know this for a fact. I would give you the exact time, but I do not want to give inaccurate information.

Everyone supposes that Dyshawn is supposed to burn the defensive backs every time, but I know quite a few DB's in this area alone that run 4.5's consistently. Saying that they may not have that much talent, but as far as a foot race they should be able to keep up. (I know more than one DB in this area who run's in the 4.4's and one of them actually plays for Powell and says Mobley can stay right with him in a foot race). Mobley does need to increase his accelleration, but his top speed is good. Majority of the time Dyshawn does leave the secondary for a walk in td, but sometimes you have kids that are going to be able to keep up for the most part. Assuming that every DB that Mobley comes up against is going to be much slower than him is ludacris. I watched Cody Blanc (who supposively got his 40 time down to a 4.3 according to numerous fans) get beat more than once in a foot race against Mobley in the secondary. You can watch it for yourself on OnDemand. You can call it one of two things... he was either scared of getting hit by Mobley and didnt want to catch him or he got out ran, but regardless those are the only two options.

I see Dyshawn in Kentucky blue as a running back regardless to what Tennessee does.

I don't think you'll find one objective person in this forum who will say that Mobley doesn't have talent. Whether or not it is SEC-level talent is up for opinionated debate and is pure conjecture at this point.

If Tennessee offers him, great for him. If they don't, he appears to have other options. We all wish him the best.

Again, this guy might be the next Jamal Lewis, but our staff has thoroughly evaluated every player that has been offered. They have a pretty good track record at this point in time. AND, they very well may have liked what they saw from Mobley, but due to the other two committed backs, decided not to offer. Not getting a UT offer doesn't mean the kid is garbage. There are several factors that could be attributed to the lack of an offer.

I trust in Dooley and his staff here especially since we are low in numbers. That staff has done a very good job of finding players that actually hit the field and have been low on misses.

To flip the script, it would be similar to those coaches coming into your place of business and telling you how to do your job, what materials you need for the job, and the right personnel for the job, while only having a casual knowledge of what your job really entails.

I'm not trying to bust you up, but can you see the parallel? They know better than anyone on this board about what they need, who they need, etc. If they thought Mobley was worth a scholarship, he would have one, or would receive one soon. So far, they have not deemed his ability worthy of a spot. Could they be wrong? Of course, unlike many professions, there's is not an exact science. Some guys rise up from nowhere to be successful. Some fall hard from the top. The key is maximizing the former and minimizing the latter.

Its not the same parallel though. It is our state school and many of us contribute money either through taxes to it or to the money we spend on games and merchandise. If you dont think that entitles us to at least an opinion I have to disagree with you.

Having an opinion doesn't make it right. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, whether you contribute a dime or not. I could be of the opinion that the Earth is flat and that wouldn't make it right, and astrophysicists worldwide would disagree. I would probably be smart to heed to their expertise. So, it is at least, a much closer parallel than you are giving it credit for in this case.

What if the lack of an offer is due to us having two very similar type backs already committed? Are you ok with not making an offer then?

Maybe I shouldn't have said senses... Yes, it is a numbers game and if we have 2 committments already, then there isn't enough room. I've seen him enough to think he is going to be a great player and I don't want to see another Randall Cobb situation.

Quite the opposite. I hope he has a successful tenure at KY. Good luck to him.

Misunderstood me....Not saying that I hope the kid doesn't have a good career, I'm saying that I hope this is not a huge miss like the previous. A lot hold the Cobb miss by CPF as an unforgiveable sin.

My understanding from a parent that has a son on the Powell team is that Dooley felt he would be better served going out of state. I don't know if there is any truth to that. It is hear say. Apparently it has to do with locals that the kid has been associated with in the past. The guy would not elaborate past that, and I'm not sure he really knows anything for that matter.

I have never heard that.... interesting about out staff if this is true, and if Dooley passed on him based on this and not based on his talent

That thought actually crossed my mind about a week ago. Sometimes it is better to get away from your high school buddies. Will be good for him and good for the Vols. A win-win! I wish him all the best!

I would say when it comes to talent that a kid in Georgia and Ohio win out. Good luck to DM as a wildcat! At this point after watching DM for 4 years at Powell I trust Dooley. He is the one making a decision with a paycheck on the line.

That is somewhat true. Saying that Dooley did not have any part or influence in the decision. Also I can't elaberate much on this, so I will leave it by saying it's not Dyshawn's high school buddies... its a completely different situation, but it is best for him at Kentucky.

According to Knoxville News Sentinnel Dyshawn Mobley is 384 yards from claiming the state single season rushing record.

Mobley is also two TD's away from having the record for the states most rushing TD's in a single season.

I find that pretty impressive since he only played one half of football in every game, but 4 games this year.

Are you sure about that? Jaron Toney scored something like 50 TD's his senior year. Has Mobley scored that many?
