Dy'shawn Mobley

Mobley ran in high gear last night. Not sure he does that every game. He was not happy with Mr. Football and wanted to prove a point.

That is one of the problems with our running backs this year. They only run when they want to run, not every play. We don't need any more of those.

I'm sure that was part of it, but he always runs hard every game. The only difference on Friday night was his number of carries. He normally has 10 to 15 and Friday night he had 29. There were several games he could have easily gotten 300+ or even 400 yards, but he only played in the first half. Powell was so far ahead, his coach pulled him at half, so as not to take the chance on getting him hurt.

I have seen Mobley 4 times now and right or wrong I am shocked especially with our RB situation that Dooley wouldn't take this guy. I'm very unimpressed with Dooley's recruiting prowess.

GO start recruiting for some d3 school lets see how high you get up in the ranks....

The coaches looked at him and watched a game of his and werent interested. They have been spot on usually so Ill take their judgement.

Tennessee staff has been in contact with Mobley, but I do not believe they have attended one of his games this year.

Mobley always runs in high gear. What people don't understand is the game against Ooltewah was only the second game this year Mobley has played a full football game. Those statistics where he was pulling 200-250 yards rushing usually came in one half of football + 1 drive in the third quarter. If Mobley played a full game every game he would have consistenly rushed over 300 yards. More than a few games he would have reached the 400 yard mark.

Mobley could have gotten close to reaching 400 against Ooltewah if it wasn't for an 80 yard td being called back in the 4th quarter. According to a Chattanooga newspaper the linebacker for Ooltewah said that Mobley is the best running back he has seen or played against in his 4 years at Ooltewah.

Powell beat Lenoir City 34 to 26. Mobley had 238 yards on 25 carries and 5 TDs.

So far the the state playoffs, he has 760 yards on 66 carries and 12 TDs. His average is 11.52 yards per carry.

Powell plays Knoxville West next Friday for the chance to go to Cookeville in 3 weeks.

I'm starting to change my tune on Mobley. If we are striking out on the big name backs, but still hell-bent on taking one, I say give this kid a shot. He is playing against better competition every week and his numbers are getting better with the competition. That may be a product of more playing time in tighter games, but nonetheless, he is impressing me in his highlights. Speed is not elite, but good enough to be a between the tackles type guy. I guess we have two of those committed.

I noticed that Mobley is not very muscular in the lower body. I am thinking that the staff has to wonder if he could keep his existing speed, which is not exceptional, if they were to try to change his physical make-up in the weight room?

His 40 time last year was underwhelming, but he worked with Charlie Garner this spring who changed some things about the way he runs and moves and his vision. Apparently, he has been religious about working on those skills during the off season. I'd love to see what his 40 time is now. I suspect it's improved. Every time I see this kid break one, he seems to be pulling away from the defenses.

I also haven't seen a list of leading rushers in the State, but surely he is in the top three.

He has to be one of the top rushers in the state. But I did not see him pulling away from those Ootelwah DB's on that long run. They almost caught him.

He sure looks good on the video. Does anyone know more about the off-field stuff? I know he was suspended for their playoff game last year. Weed, crime, or what? Some of that is gong to happen when you young. Does he have a 'tude? Good kid, bad kid, what...??? SInce he goes to Powel, surely someone on this board knows him.

If you just study the tape, he looks like a player. Not a 4 or 5 star but perhaps a 3..?

Yes, I saw that exact same thing. For running backs, they need to be big and powerful. Or have that ability to pull away in the open field. He did not show that he had that type speed. Pull up the Mathers kid from Murfreesboro Junior year video. Watch the last run in that group. He gets out in the clear and hits the jets. Over about 60 yards, he out runs them by ten yards or so. Very impressive!

I just looked at that clip. Not sure when it was in the game. It might have been late and he did rush 29 times. However it did seem to me that he slowed down near the goal line and when he became aware the DB was catching him, he shifted gears and was pulling away again when he crossed the goal line. Some one else might see it different though. That happened about 1:45 in the clip.

I am afraid he would have to build up his lower body to be that powerful and that would probably impact his speed.

I did hear a rumor as to what the problem was last year and that would have been a crime, but since I do not have first hand knowledge, I will not repeat it.

If no one from UT has even made a game, then screw those idiots. A local talent should always get a courtesy look, even if it's from a manager.Mobley is as good as some of that early recruiting season slop Dooley went after. What about that local safety? Who thinks that is a better use of a scholarship?

UT coaches are in contact with dyshawn. We'll see how it goes. But the reason college coaches want to see him on the defensive side of the ball is his mean streak. Kid loves contact. Watch him when he's the lead blocker. He demolishes people. He would be an absolutely ruthless OLB at the next level.

Yeah, I could see that more than as a running back. He reminds a me a little of Al Wilson. In high school, Al was the tailback at Jackson Central Mary (sp?). He sorta run like this guy. He looked pretty good just because he was one tough dude. But he wasn't super big or super fast. He turned out to be one heck of a linebacker for both the Vols and the Denver Broncos for many years.

Yeah maybe, I thought about that too. If that was his last touchdown, he was probably tired. And maybe he did slow. Either way, he might want to think about removing that clip from his video. Not the kind of thing you want everyone seeing...even if it is a misrepresentation. I just get the impression that he is not fast enough to be a running back in the SEC. IS Kentucky recruiting him as a RB?

LB.

Al Wilson was fast as hell. He ran a 4.5 coming out of high school. He played safety in high school

Don't make a mountain out of a mole hill. If your not going to repeat it then why did you even mention it? It's complete BS that you would say "it would have been a crime". It is either a crime or it's not and it wasn't. The incident was very minor and the suspension was only going to be for one game. Bad judgement on his part but it was a one time incident. Dy'Shawn is a good kid.
