Early look at next year's SEC (Subject to change)

Updated:

1) Kentucky
2) Florida
3) Tennessee
4) Alabama
5) Vanderbilt
6) Missouri
7) LSU
8) Ole Miss
9) South Carolina
10) Arkansas
11) Texas A&M
12) Auburn
13) Mississippi State
14) Georgia

What is the biggest gap, iyo, between the top 4 teams? Kentucky-Florida, Florida-Tennessee, or Tennessee-Alabama?

What's your logic behind having South Carolina so high?

So high? I have them 9th out of 14 teams, not like I'm predicting they make the dance. They bring in Thornwell, who if he keeps his head out of his a$$ can single handily win them a couple conference games. I also think now that Frank Martin has guys willing to play how he wants they'll be a bit better. It's also partially the fact that I think the bottom of the SEC will simply be that bad.

I'd say Tennessee-Alabama. Kentucky is clearly the most talented, but Florida's experience narrows the gap between those 2. Tennessee has even more experience returning than Florida, and is pretty talented themselves. Bama losing Lacey will hurt them quite a bit IMO, and I've frankly not been impressed with Grant one bit since he got to Tuscaloosa.

I agree, but the gap between 1 and 4 is immense.

Thornwell is good, but he's not that good. They'll still lack talented basketball players, and I'd be shocked if they finished ahead of Arkansas.

He was definitely their best perimeter defender. Not positive, but if he's gone I'm guessing they turn to a freshman, kasey hill.
Well Hill is a Top 10 recruit, so it's not like we'd be doomed. He'd probably have his fair share of growing pains; though, and our guard depth would be less-than-ideal.

Plus you guys can't replace Wilbekin's D with Hill. That'd be the biggest thing.

Yea I wasn't suggesting that you guys had an bad backup or anything, just obviously not an ideal scenario.

“@franfraschilla: I like UF's Kasey Hill as a prospect, but from what I saw at Nike Hoop Summit, he's not ready to run Top 10 team right now.”

I'm not sure if it'd make that big of a difference. But maybe. How was he on defense? I know he has a good jumper

I believe there was a debate on here during the year about whether Wilbekin or Yguette was their best defender. I think a UF fan thought it was Wilbekin. The problem is they also lost Boynton and Rosario, so no other real experience. Even a very good true freshman will take some time to adjust. Even Derrick Rose and Marquis Teague struggled some early in the year.

Kyle Wiltjer transferring from UK.

Weird.

There were lots of rumors he'd transfer, then he put a statement out he was gonna return. Now this late in the year decides to transfer, I'm guessing he didn't like the way things were looking in practice for him and PT.

He probably saw in the practices that he wasn't going to get the time. I'm sure Cal encouraged him to do what was best for him as well.

I can't wait for SEC basketball. A lot of teams should be improved. UT (getting Maymon with recruits), Vandy (cant be any worse really), Bama, Arky, Lsu (coach doing a good job), USCjr, (I'm a believer in Martin), and even UK.

I love when the SEC is a tough road game. As much as we beat each other up in conference, hopefully 5+ teams make it to the tourney and rep. the SEC well.
