East Tennessee Weather II

The worst stormS for this area always move south to north, not west to east. The storm coming has potential for the valley.
That track MetVol showed looks like most of the moisture will be to our South. Northern AL and GA will get a ton of snow if that track holds but it’ll be smaller amounts for East TN. It’s very early of course so things can change and likely will. I assume that system is still a couple weeks out.

It's always a balance around here. You get good cold air in place and the storm track is often too far south. One of the keys to getting that more south to north track is blocking off the East Coast. A good proxy for viewing that is the NAO. Ensembles are showing a lot of spread late in the forecast, but if it can go and stay negative, that helps us out with storms going south and then racing north up through the Carolinas.

The next potential significant system for the south will be next weekend, but we may get several chances before the month is over.

I'm in Campbell. It's amazing the difference a few miles make. Stayed at my parents and they only had about 1.5 inches. 10 miles away this is what it looks like at my house

Met, who you going with this weekend? The Euro or GFS?
I'm going to keep taking the ensemble approach right now. Probably a 20-30% chance of a significant snow but we'll know a lot more in the next 24-48 hours. Early last week, this past weekend's storm wasn't well handled by models at all before things started to come together mid to late week.

There will be more chances of snow over the next few weeks, but this weekend system is trending the wrong way for snow lovers. The positive tilt trough with no downstream block amplifying the pattern just isn't that favorable for us
Well……..poop

Good sized snow band moving across Morristown right now.

It's so shallow that it's barely showing up on radar as you get above about 4k ft agl. It's coated the ground here in Strawberry Plains though with temperatures so cold. Could get some icy spots tonight. Doesn't take more than a light coating of snow to cause slick travel when temperatures are in the mid 20s and lower like this.
