12z GGEM:

Sunday 12z GGEM... Pretty distinct track of accumulation now. Dividing line just south of Knox county. Looks like 1-3 inches in central valley with slightly more northeast of Knoxville. Precip is moving due east right now, if it slips to a slight southeast track the central valley will bet a bit more accumulation.

Model screen shot...

Temperature was 26 and now has dropped back down to 25 here with the mix picking up. I'll check outside and see what it is. Looks like rain/snow/sleet all at once.

Here's the 12z RGEM for Ice Accretion. It's shown in mm, so I'll translate. The dark blue area represents about .2 of an inch, while the green shows about .3 of an inch.

Well I was kinda hoping for one good snow before we get closer to spring. I know it could still happen up till marchish, but had some high hopes for now.

Comparing the precip runs vs the temp models, it looks like the warm air is going to root out the cold which after a brief few hours of snow will produce some sleet then all rain.

You have to be careful with temperature models. They tend to either be warmer than expected or colder than expected. On Friday, the models had us in the 40s for a high. We only reached the mid 30s and that was in the early evening. We spent most of the day at or below freezing.

That's my point: how can we actually know what the temp is about to do here? All of the locals completely missed on Friday. Is there any certainty with this system?

I assume there is some certainty, but as Ryan Beasley said, they are having to nowcast because of how much uncertainty there still is.

Radar loops seem to be showing a bit more moisture in the system over the past hour. Very light snow in my area.
