Edwin Herbert (opened things up)

What is Kiffin's problem with contacting recruits personally? I know he's busy, but it only takes 5 minutes to call a guy and speak with him personally. I'm a Kiffin supporter, but him having Michaels call Petty and tell him he wasn't wanted was not a good thing for recruiting IMO. That can easily be used against us. And I still haven't heard that he has spoken with Herbert. Now Herbert doesn't show up for a visit. What the hell is going on?

That is because you are not part of the staff thus you will constantly not know what is going on. It is part of being a fan. So you really have no clue he may have called maybe not who knows. I believe we are in a dead period now so there is no calling? Is that right?

Kiffin thought it'd be easier on the kid to hear it from the guy that had built up a relationship over several months.

I don't like the way this is going, folks. I'm extremely confused as to WTH is going through Kiffin's head right now. This guy was ours for the taking if we played the cards right. He's a guy that would have been an immediate contributor which we need desperately at DT. Thumbs down on the job done by Kiffin so far. I've gone from believing this would be a top 10 class to thinking we will be lucky to hold on to a top 20 spot.

ditto.

I Correct myself. FLA just has 14 commits so i guess they arent even close. This doesnt make me happy, but i got to trust Kiffin. I dont like the bashing of a coach that has been there for only 2 weeks compared to 4 years, but this is a head scratcher.

you don't think the fact fla is about to play for the title has anything to do with this kid's commitment?

kiffin is late in the game. most people understand recruiting is hard when you're months behind everyone else and dont even have your full staff together.

i'm not worried about class rankings. would you be happier if we'd kept the 2 recuits at qb so it could boost our star power and we could compete for the recruiting title?

We lost Herbert because Kiffin wouldn't guarantee Adkins would be here next year. Would you want Kiffin to keep a guy just because of one Juco recruit. No. Especially with how bad our Oline was this year.

You're not telling me anything I don't already know. I understand that we are at a disadvantage. That's not the point. We have a chance to bring in some guys that will really help this team succeed and we are not doing a good enough job at it. That's all I'm saying. Be a realist for a minute. Stop sugarcoating every mistep Kiffin makes for a second and look at what has transpired.

Kiffin is not honoring the commitments of players that had previously been committed. He is turning away prospects that don't fit his system. What's next? Is he going to start pulling players scholly's because they don't fit his system?

When Urban Meyer came to Florida he did what a good coach does. He adapted his philosophies to the personal that was either committed or already on campus. Kiffin is putting himself at a personnel disadvantage by missing out on guys that could contribute next year. By all accounts, he never even spoke with Herbert, he had a coach that in all likelihood not even be on the staff next year do it for him. Several guys that are committed or being recruited have expressed concern that Kiffin took too long to contact them. It just doesn't look good to other recruits/commits and it's certainly ammo for those recruiting against us.

I hope above all that we land every guy on our radar and some more we haven't thought of and finish this thing off with a bang. But there are absolutely no indications yet that this is going to happen.

The one thing that helped Kiffin stand out against all the other candidates in the coaching search were his recruiting abilities. All I am saying is that the early returns are less-than impressive.
