Elite 8 rings

This has already been asked and answered. Buying rings to celebrate losses would be like the second place person in the Olympics going out and buying a gold medal.

I guarantee you the rings that they got are nowhere near what Duke is getting. So again, what is your point?

You can't answer the question.

1. Should silver medals be handed out.
2. Should the runner-up get a trophy too

Wow. Are you really this dense?

1. Yes. Y...E...S

2. Yes. Y...E...S

There, I even spelled it out for you. Got it?

So at what point should we stop handing out rings and the like? I mean, if a team goes 1-32 they won a game so they should be rewarded for something, right?

I'm just not sure why they would get upset over a player getting an Elite 8 ring. Makes no sense.

So why should a silver medal be given out to a person that is not a winner?

Why should a trophy be given to a person that is not the champion?

Be consistent.

You seem to be the ring-nazi, you tell us.

I say if someone wants a ****** ring, let them get a ****** ring. Whether it's for making the E8 or taking 8th place in YMCA league. WHO CARES

Answer my questions first broom-boy. How many people should get trophies?

Maturity at it's finest.

If Dooley wanted to have rings made that said 2 wins on it then they could have rings too.

There's a difference in a silver medal and a gold metal. 1 is silver and 1 is gold.

There is a difference between and elite 8 ring and a national championship ring. 1. Has more bling and says national champions and 1 has elite 8.

So once again why are you acting as they are celebrating a championship?

There is no debate, dude.

The players wanted rings for making the elite 8, why do you care?

Again, you're missing the point. This whole thing hasn't been if we should be "allowed" to buy rings. It's undisputed that anyone could buy a ring for anything. It's the fact that rings in sports are synonymous with championships that is at issue. Buying rings for yourselves after not winning a championship of any sort makes you look like you're pretending to be something you're not. Why that is hard for some of you to get, I'm not sure.

So a ring that says Elite 8 on it is synonymous for a championship? That makes a lot of sense.

I've stated my point about 15 times in this thread. If you haven't figured it out yet, stop and consider what that says about you.

Your point is incorrect as the rings were bought for winning enough games to make it to the Elite 8, not for losing the final game. All but 1 team in the NCAA tourney ends its season with a loss....Just make sure you understand the rings were bought as a celebration for winning important games last season. If you think UT said "Hey we lost that game to Michigan State.....RINGS FOR EVERYONE!!" you are certainly ignorant or are being unnecessarily and ineffectively over-sarcastic. To use one of your gems, it's dumb that you think the team got rings for losing.

I want to give you a challenge....try to not insult my intelligence in your rebuttal.

Because I equate rings with titles, not with having a good season. I don't know why that's so hard to understand. I don't care if it's UT, Baylor, or whoever, elite eight rings are silly.

Elite 8's really didn't really mean much until coaches and fans started using them as talking-points.

Essentially, you have goals to win/achieve. I see rings in the following circumstances.

1. Winning a conference
2. Making a Final Four
3. Winning the national title

Those are the three biggies I would say the big-boys start each season as a goal.

Maybe I just expect too much.

No. I would hate to have your brain. This is so stupid. Are you sure that's the only reason someone would buy a ring? Think about it for a while.

So you equate a ring with having Elite 8 on it with a title? Wouldn't that be your own fault for equating such? I would think so.

Since those rings say "ELITE EIGHT" on them, I don't think UT is trying to act like they won anything they didn't. Why is that so hard for you to realize? Why don't you want to give any credit to the best basketball team in UT history?

Where did I ever say that the rings were not bought for the Elite Eight? I said again, rings in sports are synonymous with championships. Buying them for yourselves when you don't win a championship of any sort is stupid.
