I'm trying really hard to remember the last LV we have seen that improved from being a freshman to a senior....Glory?? But she was a workout animal and a tremendous athlete when she came in all that she added while being here was a 10ft jump shot......So has this staff developed anyone?? Help me out people

We had a girl named Spencer that improved greatly, but that was with Pat and CP....

While Bashaara Graves had a difficult sophomore season, I don't think that is any doubt that she has improved since her freshman season.

Also on the current roster, although not a senior, Jaime Nared has shown significant improvement, in my opinion, since her freshman season.

No one can suggest that Izzy Harrison didn't show vast improvement from her freshman season as a foul magnet to her All-American final season.

Cierra Burdick is another who showed significant improvement during her four year tenure. Granted, she had a tendency to disappear during really big games, but that alone can't be used to say she didn't show significant improvement.

Another who has shown improvement just in this year is Mercedes Russell, again although not a senior. Does she still make silly mistakes? Yes, but I don't think anyone would deny that she is playing better this year than during her freshman season and also better at this point in the season than she was at the beginning of the season.

This staff has developed, and is capable of developing, individual players. What they seem inept at is developing a basketball team. Even though Holly acknowledged right before the game that this team needed to keep an "attacking" frame of mind for four quarters, it was apparent that the team took their collective foot off the gas late in the third quarter and into the fourth. Fortunately, at least on this occasion, they were able to re-position that foot and close out the game! I doubt they will be so fortunate against a team like South Carolina or Georgia.

All of the Coaches on this board will vehemently disagree with you.

it seems that Tn only gets great players and makes them poorer, why not reverse that trend starting now with Schubert? :)

hey, try something new, Holly!

I saw nothing in her tape which made me think she could play D1 basketball, other than she is 6-3 or 6-4. She is not very quick, does nor run the floor, has little range on her shot, get pushed around under the board, and seems passive. I think she would do OK at CN or ETSU but not in a D1 school.I realize that Holly did not sign anyone in November, but one does not sign someone just to say we signed a recruit. She could always walk on and see how she progresses, but don,t give a scholarship away without some hope she can contribute.

but, those youtubes show that she can score on a layup, so that is better than half of the lady vols already.... and she can run for a big girl. I'd say she is way more mobile than Russell and bigger than Nia by a lot. She is somebody who you can work with and maybe find a gem. imvvho

Same thing I said, we have no recruits for next season (so far) and we lose 2 (possibly 3 if Jasmine doesn't return) Post players this season. As of now we have no back up to Russell (or Nared who is more than likely to start at the 4 unless Dunbar improves her defense) So it shouldn't hurt to use (even if it is wasted) 1 scholarship on a player instead of going into the season with only 9 players next year (you can't tell me a walk on would be better) And Holly isn't as smart as Jeff Waltz to take a 6'2"/6'3" player from the schools Volleyball team and coach them up for a season.

We've given a couple scholarships away already to Moore (who is getting time now that we have to use her since Jasmine is out) and Dunbar (who can't play Defense at this level and we had to have known that while recruiting her and she also rarely gets in the game) so why not waste another on a 6'4" player who could at the least spell Mercedes for a couple of minutes

NOT very quick? Lew Alcindor wasn't very quick, neither was Larry Bird. How did that work out?

or consider this

Rebecca lobo not quick. Elena Delle Donne not quick.

Quick is over rated!

Jim I'll give you Izzy she did improve......but Burdick was a gym rat before she got to UT youtube her workout videos and you'll see her hitting that 12ft jump shot she always took in games and knock it down

Russell I'm still not seeing it but maybe she just continues to fall back into old habits....Always appreciate your input Jim :hi:

Schubert plays for Elizabethan no one that I know of has been close to them, the twins are the main scorers but everyone on the team scores

Sorry did not see the earlier post. It was the boys who went to OT. No one in upper ET has given the girls much of a game.

the simple fact that she can run the court well at 6' 4" would have me recruiting her like crazy! She can be taught how to play bball.

You can't be teaching basic fundamentals and how to make open lay ups at the collegiate level. I watched her play Wednesday night and I'm telling you she is not SEC material. Holly was at the game last night also so I hope she saw it first hand.

who says you can't?

I'm sure that Geno doesn't skip the fundamentals and start with just the finished product every year.
