Emily Schubert 6'4"

You can't be teaching basic fundamentals and how to make open lay ups at the collegiate level. I watched her play Wednesday night and I'm telling you she is not SEC material. Holly was at the game last night also so I hope she saw it first hand.

Nicky Anosike came to Tennessee not knowing how to make a layup and left Tennessee not knowing how to make a layup.

At this point, a big body is better than no body.

Well, I don't know about all this. The kind of basketball I have always liked is an up-tempo running style with a wide-open, attack-the-basket attitude. That's neither right or wrong, just my preference.

But I do believe that a player that is big but can't run the floor will just feed the no-quick-shot-throw-it-inside mentality that Holly has. Holly will spend all her time teaching the kid defense and rebounding position.

And the team will continue to be stuck in the mud throwing the ball around the perimeter until 3 seconds are left on the clock and either force up a wild shot or force a pass inside to the big player who will undoubtedly be surrounded by three defenders.

Maybe there might be a reason other programs aren't fighting over a 6'4" post player.....?

Let's go over this again:

BIG does not equal GOOD.

Best case scenario, she might be another Nia Moore. And that is probably overly optimistic. I know Holly is struggling in recruiting, but it's even worse to whiff then hand out scholarships just to hand them out....

in the small amount of video I've seen of her, Schubert seems to run just fine. And hit her layups, FT's and shots from top of the key.

imho, she is worth a scholly. If she flames out after 2 years she can be sent packing.

maybe Tyler will grab another big girl from right under Holly's nose...

On a good night Shubert is Elizabethton's 3rd-best player.

Given that their two best players signed w/ ETSU, what would it say about the state of our program if we ended up signing her?

UCHS sophomore Halie Padgett caused problems down low for Lady Cyclone post Emily Schubert, Dugger added.
The Erwin Record - Local News - Serving Erwin and Unicoi County, Tennessee

Padgett, BTW, is just 5'10".

We've given a couple scholarships away already to Moore (who is getting time now that we have to use her since Jasmine is out) and Dunbar (who can't play Defense at this level and we had to have known that while recruiting her and she also rarely gets in the game) so why not waste another on a 6'4" player who could at the least spell Mercedes for a couple of minutes

Dunbar can score and will if given the opportunity. There is no reason why they could play zone while in the game and diminish problem with hr man defense.

it must have not been much trouble, Schubert's team won by a huge margin and the writer had to have some angle to give a little hope for the other team... gotta sell them papers! 10 points?

The Elizabethan girls beat us 107-17. I did not get to go. I would not take too much on any scoring stats in this game. Our tallest player is probably no taller than 5 8 to 5 9. They scored 43 in the first quarter and although that score sounds bad it could have been worst. He was probably playing the end of the bench a lot. I have not seen her this year. She is good but does not jump out as Hey She Will play at a major collage type although she has skill and who knows. The twins on the other hand I believe coaches will regret not signing them to a higher level than ETSU (no offense to them, I think they got a steal in both).

If the staff is looking at Schubert hard, Greene who is averaging a double double and looks very strong must not be interested?

so, she plays well with others? If she has a great teammate or two she doesn't hog the ball or pout that she isn't the "star"?

Damn, wouldn't that be a pleasant change on Rockytop? A team first hard working mobile big girl... Haven't seen one of those since Sidney Spencer.

of course Spencer wasn't "quick" so she must have been a wasted recruit by Pat... :(

Watched her play many times as I live here in etown. She has some strong games against mediocre competition at best. There is no way she will do anything with lady vol basketball. She will get ran over in the SEC. She would probably get ran over playing NAIA ball. Not trying to be rude, but it's the truth and if we settle for players like that at Tennessee we are in serious trouble.

Exactly! This move just shows the desperation that Holly and her staff find themselves in. It's mid season and they are looking for ANYBODY to become a LadyVol because NOBODY with skills want to play for Holly in the class of 2016.

Fire Holly, NOW!:)

I wouldn't mind them having a couple of project players on the bench, you never know with some, maybe a little coaching up can have a big impact, they have the room to carry one or two easily

so, we can sign her up to this forum and let all the coaches here develop her skills. we don't need no freaking staff.

That is a great idea Gule. I don't know why some of these people don't go to practice and help the coaches. I know they would make Holly better.

Some players have enough talent to be developed, some do not.

I agree with this. Not everybody's physical talent level is equal. There are millions of 18 year olds. How many of them get D1 scholarships? Few of them. There is a reason the rest of them don't.

Then give her an academic scholarship and leave the basketball scholarships for much more talented players. If Tennessee's women basketball program has sunk to the level that she would be a top priority, we should withdraw from the SEC.n If she can not get an offer from ETSU, why would Tennessee offer when they will need players who make a difference in the SEC?

Top priority? Come on. A top priority would have been offered long ago. If she had not been on the radar for whatever reason, there's nothing wrong with taking a look at her now. If we didn't take a look and she went on to be a good player at another school (I read several D1 schools are looking at her), you would probably be complaining about Holly overlooking someone in her back yard.

No one has said she is a TOP priority. But, the need for a post player is. If she doesn't work out, it's 1 or 2 years of scholarship money blown. I've pissed away more money than that on pizza & beer.

Take another look at the post I quoted. That poster used the term.
