New Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin wasn’t kidding about hitting the ground running in terms of recruiting in-state talent.

Kiffin was officially announced as UT’s coach on Monday afternoon and then he reportedly flew to Memphis to visit Harding Academy receiver Marlon Brown.

He’s been busy calling area prospects, too. Hillsboro defensive back Eric Gordon said he’s already heard from Kiffin.

Gordon, a 5-foot-9, 187-pound cornerback, is a four-star prospect according to Rivals.com and is one of the most-recruited DBs in the Southeast.

“I actually talked to the new coach,” Gordon said. “He seems like a guy that knows what he’s talking about. He seemed down to Earth.”

Gordon’s Rivals.com profile lists Alabama, Miami, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas Tech as his leaders. Gordon said on Tuesday he was pretty wide open on which school he would attend and said he was still trying to figure out when to take his last official visits. Asked if he was impressed with Kiffin’s pitch, he had a simple answer.

“Most definitely,” he said.

This is a guy that is really important to get. I know Bama fans want him bad. Whether they have room or not, I really want to keep this guy away from them. Teague too.

He is on the west team saturday. I use to play basketball with eric and he is about as athletic as it gets, built like a brick wall ,incredible vertical jump. His brother is jamont gordon who came out of nashville for basketball who is now in the NBA
