Hillsboro senior receiver/defensive back Eric Gordon will play football at Tennessee, giving Lane Kiffin his first commitment since becoming the Vols coach.
Gordon, who received an in-home visit from Kiffin last Saturday night after Hillsboro upset top-ranked Maryville for the Class 4A state title, notified the coach today of his decision.
Ive been up thinking all night
and UT is who came up, said Gordon, who chose the Vols over Alabama and Oklahoma. Coach Kiffin's visit to my house was big. We talked about school, plays and what I would learn at UT.
"He said Im definitely a cornerback there, but he would love to get the ball in my hands at slot receiver or running reverses. And I could definitely return kicks.
Gordon, a 5-9, 182-pound prospect, is a listed as four-star recruit by Rivals.com. His commitment falls in line with Kiffins stated objective to close down the state borders and bring Tennessees top players to Knoxville.
Gordon had six interceptions splitting time between safety and defensive back this season.
As a receiver, he caught 51 passes for 819 yards and nine touchdowns. As a running back, he carried the ball 59 times for 480 yards and nine touchdowns.
Gordon's older brother, Jamont, was a former All-SEC basketball player at Mississippi State.
