Eric Gordon

Well done Kiffster, very impressive turn around on this guy. Keep building that fence. :clapping: :pepper:

Hillsboro senior receiver/defensive back Eric Gordon will play football at Tennessee, giving Lane Kiffin his first commitment since becoming the Vols coach.
Gordon, who received an in-home visit from Kiffin last Saturday night after Hillsboro upset top-ranked Maryville for the Class 4A state title, notified the coach today of his decision.

“I’ve been up thinking all night … and UT is who came up,” said Gordon, who chose the Vols over Alabama and Oklahoma. “Coach Kiffin's visit to my house was big. We talked about school, plays and what I would learn at UT.

"He said I’m definitely a cornerback there, but he would love to get the ball in my hands at slot receiver or running reverses. And I could definitely return kicks.”

Gordon, a 5-9, 182-pound prospect, is a listed as four-star recruit by Rivals.com. His commitment falls in line with Kiffin’s stated objective to close down the state borders and bring Tennessee’s top players to Knoxville.

Gordon had six interceptions splitting time between safety and defensive back this season.

As a receiver, he caught 51 passes for 819 yards and nine touchdowns. As a running back, he carried the ball 59 times for 480 yards and nine touchdowns.

Gordon's older brother, Jamont, was a former All-SEC basketball player at Mississippi State.

I think with Gordon, Hunter, and Thigpen we'll be pretty set in the Defensive Backfield. Especially if Hunter moves to safety and Thigpen becomes a good corner. Or we could use Hunter in an Eric Berry type role. Hunter could also matchup well with the big receiver types like Julio Jones.

Nice!!!!

To get a commit like this after the Giles debacle is wonderful news!!!

HUGE!

If you had given vols the chance to have Gordon or Giles with Oku already on board, I think 99% would have chosen Gordon.

Let's get this fence going Tennessee!

Confession time. I wasn't really keeping up with recruiting all that much throughout the season and especially during the coaching search.

With that said, and the fact I'm too lazy to read up on the recruitment of Gordon, can we attribute this commit to Kiffin or were the Vols in pretty good shape with him even with Fulmer?

The Volunteer State.... Fence it in, baby!

Perfect timing!!

Way to make a commitment, Eric! Can't wait to see you in Orange! :dance2:

Congratulations Coach Kiffin!!

All Kiffen. We were in terrible shape before Kiffin talked to him. Saban was about to pull another one out of our state.

We were in it, but he was expected to go to Bama if they had room for him. Chalk up this one to Kiffin and his visit after Gordon's game the other night.

There's a thread here tracking Kiffin's prowess and some prospects he's added to UT's list:

Did he have a firm offer from Bama? I know they have backed off some recruits lately because they are low on schollies.

Just as an update:

Josh Ward is talking to Eric Gordon on SportsTalk. Gordon said, in no uncertain terms, that it was "neck and neck" (UT and Alabama) but Kiffin "got it done."
