Charles Woodson made $10.5 mil in 2005

Woodson was a great college players and a very good NFL CB. But was he any different than any other great college defensive player? That was the oddity of that Heistman year.

It is interesting to note that Notre Dame has had more winners than the entire SEC combined. That says enough right there.

Well, Woodson won a National Title and made big offensive or special teams plays in his team's two biggest regular season game. I'll say that's a Heisman worthy resume.

Or it says how good they were in the first half of the century. Since 1964, the only ND player to win the Heisman was Tim Brown. Are you going to argue against that? And, what love the Heisman association has for Notre Dame, 1 Heisman in over 40 years.

Tennessee players have won numerous awards over the years, but any great players will downplay individual awards in favor of team accomplishments. It is great to win individual awards, but it doesn't mean squat if you aren't winning games.

You mean good like in 1956 when Paul Hornung won it while playing on a 2-8 team?
Are you using this as some kind of argument that Majors should have won? He finished second in the voting, however, the votes that went to Hornung would have been split between McDonald, Tubbs, and Brown had Hornung not received the votes for being on a losing team.

I am not bringing Majors into this at all. All I'm doing is refuting the assertion that Notre Dame players always won Heisman trophies because they played for good teams.

The award is for the best college player in the nation. Does anyone really dispute that Hornung was a better player than Majors?
Seems in recent , the team with the BEST player played for had to be on a top 10 team, no?

. . . and how the heck do you have insight into the voting patterns of Heisman trophy voters in 1956?

1943: 9-1, Heisman, NC
1947: 9-0, Heisman, NC
1949: 10-0, Heisman, NC
1953: 9-0-1, Heisman, NC
1956: 2-8, Heisman
1964: 9-1, Heisman
1987: 8-4, Heisman

I would say that it is tough to refute...

Why would I? The right guy won in '97.

You think he deserved it over Ward from Georgia? Ward was and is twice the player Woodson ever even thought he might be. Both in NCAA and esp in the NFL. Woodson is not even one of the best at either of his positions. Face it, ESPN pushed the kid and they won. If you wanna give it to a multi player, Hines Ward has to be the one to get it that year.

I would dispute that the '87 team was good. I remember Miami and Texas A&M beating them as if they talked bad about their mothers.

Also, Woodson just shut down the other team's best WR for the most part the whole year long.

Majors got only the 3rd most first place votes. In the east, midwest, and west he was not even a factor in the Heisman race. He won in the South by a landslide, but that is it.

Really, if Woodson wasn't a good college DB, how did he end up in 5 straight Pro Bowls? He was easily the best DB in the country that year.
