You think he deserved it over Ward from Georgia? Ward was and is twice the player Woodson ever even thought he might be. Both in NCAA and esp in the NFL. Woodson is not even one of the best at either of his positions. Face it, ESPN pushed the kid and they won. If you wanna give it to a multi player, Hines Ward has to be the one to get it that year.
If Ward is so much better, why has Woodson played in more Pro Bowls?

I have argued that point since myself! If that was the criteria, Ward should have won it! He should be more Pi$$ed than the Mannings!

I still want to know who was a better defensive back than Woodson in '97.

All the talking heads and voters who were interviewed stated that because he was a multi player is why he won. You cannot argue that Ward was not a better multi player. And as far as pro bowls go, let's see when their careers are over. Oh wait, CW looks to be...

Woodson was the BEST defensive back that year. He also made big plays on special teams and clutch play at receiver. He also lead his team to the natinonal championship. In the biggest game for the team against number 4 OSU to go to the championship, he had an interception in the endzone, made a big play to set up a TD, and returned a punt for a touchdown.

Way to fail miserably in backing up your statement that Woodson wasn't the best player at either of his positions. Also, how many game changing defensive plays did Ward make in '97?

Ward had better numbers on just about everything everything they both did. Punt returns, Receptions etc.

These guys think Manning or Ward should have won. Contributing to a National Championship is a concept foreign to them.

Given that he was a full time offensive player, I would hope Ward had more receptions. I'll take that as none as to the number of defensive plays Ward made.

The Steelers may not but Ward probably will. I will bet you what ever you want he is in Hawaii long before CW is.
If 13 catches and 1 TD through 4 games played is a Pro Bowl pace, there's something terribly wrong with the voting process.

hate we know the big reason you like CW. He got what the whole thinking, non-emotional world knows should have gone to PM and that gets you off.

It's early in the season my man. Big Ben has to get his head out of his "plow animal" before any recievers can catch many TD's.

No, he got what trailer dwelling, hyper -emotional embarassments to my home state think should have gone to Captain Stats.

I guess you're right. I mean only people from Tennessee think PM should have gotten it. hmmm. seems like..not so much. Face it man people from all over think PM deserved it. I travel a lot with my business and I can't tell you how often people still bring that up.

I'm living proof that some upwardly mobile, suburb dwelling, mentally stable people feel the same way. It wasn't quite as big a snub as some would like to think, but I think at the very least Woodson did benefit from having some good timing more than anything else.

...but, it's not like it was the first time there was disagreement over the Heisman.

Now hate, don't be so hard on your home state. Why just the other week I was sitting at a place in Denver and a guy saw my UT bag and commented that he "no longer even cares about the hypeman after what they did to ya'lls guy." And that is just but one example I hear a lot of.

If he said "y'all," he's not a native Coloradoan.

No, except when Tennesseans bring it up the way rednecks in Mississippi angrily rage about the Civil War, most people don't think about it at all.

I'll agree with you there. Some people take it just a little too personally.

He benefited from doing what Captain Stats never did. Playing brilliantly with the lights at their brightest. Had Manning not spent a September afternoon in Gainesville throwing Tony George a touchdown pass, he would have won by acclimation.

hate you would be surprised how often it is brought up by non UT folks when I travel. I'm sure they don't to you. But then again if you are like how you post... then I would guess you're not the most approachable fella.
