ESPN likes Arky State's chances

Yeah, but I think you'll agree that it will be a different conversation about that game when we light up those fighting aggies...right?

I don't think you'll be lighting up the Aggies, but I am obviously biased in my views.

But I do wonder why these ESPN writers, who seemingly have no skin in the game, are so sure that the Vols are not yet ready to easily dispose of lower tier teams like Utah State and arky st.

UT should be improved over last year even with the loss of a large number of regulars. But just for comparison, related to the post of Ark St's schedule for last season, the points differential for the three common opponents, excluding WKU which seems to have Ark ST's number was (MO, USA and AU) was -50 for Ark St and -57 for UT.
Just shows that it is very difficult and an exercise in futility to predict game outcomes this early especially based on last year's results.

Some may laugh but it's been consistent since 1997. ESPN does not like Tennessee.

Ok, so we're sticking with the ESPN hates UT conspiracy theory then?

On a related note, do UT fans also think that the refs wear Florida/Bama gear under their officiating uniforms?

Good stuff. I think y'all are onto something big. Keep pursuing it...

Its not a conspiracy theory, its proven fact.

The Vols could be in for real trouble with this one. Butch Jones isn’t doing himself any favors bringing in a program that’s won 28 games over the past three seasons. And considering the fact that Tennessee doesn’t return a single starter on the offensive or defensive line, doesn’t have an established quarterback and will be coming off a tough season-opener against a Utah State team that won nine games a season ago, it’s a safe bet that Arkansas State will be getting everyone’s full attention.

What do you think?

Id say we've been a 17 point underdog to a potential national championship team, and went into their house and ran down their throats for the win. It's Vegas.

The only thing to worry about is that it is a trap game before GA and after the tough Utah State opener. I don't think trap games matter as much early on as they do mid-season. They are not of the same quality of players as when Coach Freeze was coaching them either.

This is where leadership like Maggitt will rally the troops and not let them get complacent.

But......you never take your opponent lightly, just ask Michigan about Appalachian State.

Reaching the peak of our rebuilding. Having years of sub par will make you lose respect. But finally the system is in place.

You prepare each week as if the national championship game is in the fourth quarter and your a drive away from winning. No matter what team it is.

Not sure if it's a joke bout the conspiracy thing, but they will be biased to those that make them money. Once tennessee reaches the top again they will be on our bandwagon. It's just business. So right now, espn isn't high on us. We will turn heads soon

Why is it that every time I read one of your posts, I am reminded of being at a restaurant where there's a loud, precocious 5 year-old two tables away?

Go Vols.

Until we get back to looking like Tennessee football again, I kinda like everybody's chances against us.

Bingo! We have yet to suffer an ignominious defeat like Florida last season to ga southern. Lsu and Bama have also lost these type games. Ole miss lost to Jax state. We are primed to lose a game like this. It would not surprise me at all. Nick saban lost to Uab and to la tech.

Like Western Kentucky last year...

Can you say bulletin board material? I'm completely confident that Butch knows exactly what to do with this kind of press. I believe this staff has established enough confidence among the players that they (the coaches) can present it as "us against the world." As a competitor, my favorite two words were, "you can't." Loved it when my opponent doubted me. Expect a highly motivated team 118 this fall. Go Vols!!!

The stupid thing about predictions like this is that the same guys saying UT should lose to mid-majors out of one side of their mouth will praise Jones as a "good fit" for UT out of the other. It is one or the other... not both. Either he's a guy who should beat teams consistently when he has more talent or he's not the right guy.

No you can't get it thru your thick head that jones was left a steaming, hot pile of dog manure. The experts see this but you don't. They also believe that CBC can coach based on his history. Give the man a chance and stop the saber rattling.

Especially since we've disposed of you lower tier crap teams year after year with much worse teams than the 2014 team......

Cute attempt at a jab though.

If our QB can hit 60 percent of his passes we will win at least 7 if QB play is not up to par we will win 4.

Excuse... excuse... excuse...

That "pile" has nothing to do with whether the '14 UT Vols are more talented and better coached than Arkansas State in September. UT will be more talented... by a lot.

IF he can coach... then he will. Stop making excuses ahead of time for potential bad losses. And a loss to Arkansas State would be WORSE than Dooley's loss to UK.

One of the 4 will be good enough. I suspect with the weapons UT has, Worley will be just fine as a "distributor" and game manager.

Maybe because we're coming out of the worst 3 yr. run in our history and you guys are coming out of your best 3 yr. in history. Arkansas St. is the same as you. Either way we've heard the same rhetoric from the likes of Cincinnati, W. Ky. and NC State. I respect you as a fan(atic) of your team as we are but you will get lit.
