ESPN says Texas A&M, Mizzou, Clemson, FSU to join SEC

Anybody who is hating on the idea that Florida St. is coming is a retard. I know we already have a market in the state of Florida, but FSU is coming back as an elite team. They won't just bolster the SEC in football, but also in basketball and baseball as well. The SEC is the super conference.

It had nothing to do with performance. It's about who can increase the SEC's revenue. FSU cannot do that. Bringing in a slightly above average Missouri team would bring in greater revenue than an "elite" FSU.

This has everything to do with markets, i.e. money; not getting better teams.

Ok you are right. I hear they are going after Harvard so they can go get in on that Cambridge/Boston market. The school having lousy athletics wont stop them because as you said its not about performance.

Florida St. is borderline elite. Texas A&M is very good. Mizzou has been good for a few years now, and Clemson is an above average team. I like the additions.

Caveman, those schools you mentioned are little brothers to bigger universities that completely own those markets. And keep it D1, Harvard?

aTm, Mizzou make sense.

From there I would rather see KSU/KU, Duke/UNC, or Va/VaTech.

Who the hell is FSU's big brother? Duke? are you joking? except for basketball they suck. Virginia? They had a good year in baseball this year other than that they blow. UNC is getting ready to get hammered by the NCAA then head straight down the toilet. Kansas and Kansas st is just stupid.

Caveman, you're confusing my rebutle to your post with my opinion of who I like to see play.

P1. of my post was "you are wrong, here is why"

P2. of my post was "I enjoy watching these teams play in various sports, add them"

No... you mentioned
Baylor (Texas, aTM, TTech lead market)
NC State (UNC, Duke, Clemson lead market)
Wake (see above)

as your argument for the SEC persuing performance programs as well as market programs. I'm saying you're wrong, you fail to see the underlying variable. Teams have larger market shares because they are successful long term. This whole realignment is completely fueled by market size; it is only by coincidence (or common sense) that the teams that hold large markets are also more successful than those you mentioned.

I agree with this. With Mizzou and ATM you get new, huge markets, with all you get academics, plus all are very competitive. Win-win for all.

Makes sense

I would like to see Baylor
This guy makes the argument.

WoadBlue - WoadBlue a Tennessee native and UNC graduate who is now semi-retired and living back in Tennessee after having lived since his UNC days in SWC country and Big 8 country, as well as both SC and NC. Other than ACC sports and SEC football, WoadBlue a fan of the Tour de France, the French Open, and hurling (Ireland's biggest team sport).

Thats my fault. I was being a smartass to someone when I mentioned those teams. Yes like I stated 20 minutes ago I understand all about getting teams with large markets, and most of those teams are successful. If the SEC goes out and grabs FSU and Clemson, yes the SEC already has teams in their states but you take two of the most popular teams from a neighboring conference and completely occupy those two states.(nobody gives a rats ass about the U of Miami unless you have alot of felonies). You have increased the revenues of the league.

And I think this goes back to the being competitive argument, people will watch nationally for that reason alone. TV markets in Texas and Mizzou are bonuses.

Gotcha Caveman, good deal.

Hell to the NO for Baylor.

This is much like a big time recruit, we'll hear they're committed to both conferences up until the deadline. At which point aTm and TxU will announce a two team semi-independent conference and a 'everything's bigger in Texas Television Network'.
