Etsu fulmer presser fri 1st

No chance is hell. Where would you put an outdoor facility at ETSU? Where would the funding come from? Darr.

Haven't read the whole thread yet but ETSU has a ton of new athletic facilities and construction around campus is in full swing. There is room for a small stadium next to the CPA. Football is coming back whether Fulmer is involved or not (which I doubt).

You all just think Hart and Cheek is a bad combonation for your athletic department. They are rank amauters when it comes to trying to destroy an athletic department compared to Stanton/Mullins. ETSU basketball has been playing in the Dome since
1977. roof leaks, seats are small and uncomfortable and it generally sucks for baksetball.
We can't use half the seats because of fire marshall regs (lost our grandfather clause when we dropped football).

So instead of building a new basketball arena they built, new tennis courts, a golf center
probably nicer that what UT has, a softball field, a baseball field the above mentioned soccer field and a project that hasn't finished yet building yet another tennis center.
Got us kicked out our old conference when the dropped football and it leaked to the press before they had mentioned it to the Socon, (the commish found out ETSU was dropping football by reading it in the paper).

Those two guys have done all they kind to destroy the primary sports at ETSU.

The reason given for dropping football was it was losing a million dollars a year. So the year after football was dropped do you the the athletic budget went down? Nope it went up 250,000.

I'm not disagreeing with anything you are saying but I want to point out that the golf center was 100% funded by private donations with the exception of the land which was already owned by the university. It took years to get it done. And there is no "probably" about it being better than UT's. It's one of the top Golf Centers in the county. Other schools look to model theirs after it.

Right now ETSU is in Div. 1. (non-football) Atlantic Sun Conference. It would be a drop for other sports unless they went to Div. 1. FCS where they could dominate the way they've been dominating all their major other sports.

From wiki:

In the 2006-07 year, ETSU won both the conference's men and women's All-Sport trophies, winning seven team titles. They repeated as the overall and men's All-Sport champions in 2007-08 with three team titles, in 2008-09 with five team titles, and in 2009-10 with three team titles.[14] ETSU has won the Bill Bibb Trophy for the best overall Atlantic Sun athletic program all four years since it was first awarded for the 2006-07 season.[14]

Life has been very good for ETSU athletes since football was abandoned. In fact, better than expected. Men's and Women's basketball teams are making regular appearances.

Football is slated to return in 2015 but given how much success they've had without it, it may not be worth it esp. in a budget crunch. I didn't like it when they cut football BUT I'm not sure it's worth the price of joining a new conference AND bankrolling it - let's be honest football is freaking expensive and none of these lower end schools see much money from it. Basketball IS a sounder investment.

Unless, ETSU has some big time boosters lined up, they stand to lose all their conference achievements just to add a financial millstone around their necks (they were losing ~$1 million a year from football 99-03 and private soliicitations as well as a proposed student fee failed when students voted on it). It's a bit odd that SGA agreed to $125 student fee this time around but I guess those in the admin/boosters etc. learned their lesson last time around when the student body voted and said no to the fee.

I don't even want to know what the total they will be paying now that $125 per semester or $250 per year just for football. Add in the other part of the athletic fee that's pre-existing and students are going to be paying a lot for something they didn't vote for and something they don't get to say no too. Back in 07 students would've paid $350 in total athletic fees had the football vote passed. Now it's $250 per year just for football plus the other part of the athletic fee that was already there. (I've looked and ETSU is hiding the heck out of it's fee system).

Also is there a Div. 1 FCS conference they could join and expect similar success in all these other sports?

I read quite a bit on this the other day... About them bringing back football, tearing down the mini dome, etc...I was buying the possibility of Fulmer going there until a couple of their fans went full retard and started discussing Bruce Pearl coaching their hoops team. And no I'm not joking.

Mini dome will not be torn down. They use it for too many other things like NAIA track and field tourneys and such.

Screw ETSU!!!! Biggest Liberal Communist College i have seen. They run a friend of mine out that school for reporting teachers pushing liberal and homosexual views.

And IMO the worst college i ever attended academic wise!!!

Good thing those other colleges you attended provided such an incredible mastery of the English language.

Word is they want back into the Southern Conference.

Actually the University said that they were going to tear down the dome in the next 10 years. It's about time too the half buried beer can is an eyesore and dilapidated.

Also, there is no way this rumor is true. ETSU could never afford Fulmer.

Yeah I just don't see CPF coaching the Bucs program, I would love it no doubt about it but I just don't see it.. Either way who ever coaches I would love to see the Football program back up and running, and not in that freaking dome either. Build a new stadium and they will come!!!!

A new stadium is part of the deal with restarting the football program from what I understand. The would likely play at Science Hill's new facility until it is finished. Wouldn't that be a kick in the head if the Fulmer thing is true (it's not). He would be playing on Steve Spurrier Field.

He may not be doing it for the money at this point in his career. Working to build a high quality football program just up the road from UT might be interesting to him...for a variety of reasons. If he is just serving in an advisory capacity, he may not even be that pricey...and if he has any annoyance left for UT, a subtle poke in their ribs might be fun for him.

I gotta say that as an ETSU alum, I think this is great if true. There are some decent high school programs here in the Tri-Cities that would only get better if there were a successful program here, and better high school programs in east TN can only help UT over time. I think it ends up being a win for both ETSU and UT.

I hope you are correct. I'm an alum too. The wife is currently a student. I was even going there when they killed the football program. It just seems unlikely to me. I'm just waiting to see a post where someone says he is on a private plane about to land at Tri-Cities.

no website anywhere has ever or will ever produce better and more accurate information from threads that start with "i heard from someone" or "i overheard"

it would be comical for any other website to even try.

Hey 99...you still walking bowlegged after that Tuesday night pounding?

I would love for them to tear it down but MSHA just recently donated a few mil to slap their logo on it. Plus it just houses too much other stuff which will need to be relocated before any plan to tear it down comes to fruition. Mainly basketball. At this point it's cheaper to just keep patching up the mini-dome than build a brand new arena.

There wast talk last summer about partnering with with city/county to build a new bball facility closer to downtown which would be great for both the university and downtown JC.

Cute story. Do tell us another one. Thanks.:hi:

The biggest problem is all the offices that are there. Simple fix, tear down Brooks Gym and build there to house those folks. MSHA could stick there name on the new stadium too. Also they liquidated all the stuff that they used t turn the dome into a football field. If they bring football back there it would flop, just like before. ETSU needs to go all in or it won't be worth bringing it back. Lets hope they don't try to cheap out on it. Every inch of the dome smells like old feet.
