Etsu fulmer presser fri 1st

Build a new stadium and they will come!!!!

Don't bet the family farm on that, in fact, don't bet anything on that. ETSU is a suitcase college, no history of real success in football, except for a few (and far between) years, and no history of really supporting (as in large attendance) their past football program.

If ETSU football woulda been up & running since oh say 2008, they might have had more interest.

Hypothetical question: easier turnaround ETSU or UT? I'll hang up & listen.

I doubt it. The football program was a dumpster fire (at Chernobyl) when it got killed. Starting over now will probably create a better program faster than sticking with it would have, sadly.

I should have been more specific. Which will be easier, reconstructing ETSU into a socon power or UT into an SEC champ?

(I know furman would be a tougher opponent than bama) but comparing these apples & oranges as best as we can, which would get where it wants to be faster?

Right now ETSU is in Div. 1. (non-football) Atlantic Sun Conference. It would be a drop for other sports unless they went to Div. 1. FCS where they could dominate the way they've been dominating all their major other sports.

From wiki:

Life has been very good for ETSU athletes since football was abandoned. In fact, better than expected. Men's and Women's basketball teams are making regular appearances.

Football is slated to return in 2015 but given how much success they've had without it, it may not be worth it esp. in a budget crunch. I didn't like it when they cut football BUT I'm not sure it's worth the price of joining a new conference AND bankrolling it - let's be honest football is freaking expensive and none of these lower end schools see much money from it. Basketball IS a sounder investment.

Unless, ETSU has some big time boosters lined up, they stand to lose all their conference achievements just to add a financial millstone around their necks (they were losing ~$1 million a year from football 99-03 and private soliicitations as well as a proposed student fee failed when students voted on it). It's a bit odd that SGA agreed to $125 student fee this time around but I guess those in the admin/boosters etc. learned their lesson last time around when the student body voted and said no to the fee.

I don't even want to know what the total they will be paying now that $125 per semester or $250 per year just for football. Add in the other part of the athletic fee that's pre-existing and students are going to be paying a lot for something they didn't vote for and something they don't get to say no too. Back in 07 students would've paid $350 in total athletic fees had the football vote passed. Now it's $250 per year just for football plus the other part of the athletic fee that was already there. (I've looked and ETSU is hiding the heck out of it's fee system).

Also is there a Div. 1 FCS conference they could join and expect similar success in all these other sports?

So much misinformation in this post, don't know if the guy is clueless are just slanting it that way. Yeah ETSU got booted down to a lesser conference and was kicking everybodys ass at first. The other teams are catching up. ETSU has made 2 NCAA appearances since dropping into the A-Sun, Belmont went 6 times. Belmont moved to the OVC so you would think ETSU would have a clear path, right? Wrong they have lost 22 games so far this year and absolutely suck. Sports have been getting worse not better.

The old ETSU was losing a million dollars strawman, lol.
How was it if the reason ETSU dropped football was it was losing so much money that the year after football was dropped the athletic budget INCREASED? Seems like if Football was losing lots of money, you drop football, budget would go down, right?

Last time when the students voted no, (only about 10% actually voted) the were told the fee would be 350 dollars to bring football back. Stanton raised the fee 350 dollars anyway the next semster.

The 125 dollar fee will put their student fees in line with the other TBR schools, ETSU fees were lower this will raise them to the same level as the other schools.

The 125 is NOT just for football, that is to bring back football and to bring women's sports into Title IX complance.

It is pretty fair to compare them. the SoCon is pretty much the SEC of the FCS division. Appy St and Georgia Southern have both won mutli National championships and Furman and Wofford have both won them as well and Marshall won them when it was in the conference.
The problem is both Appy St and GSU are talking about moving up to FBS in the next couple of years so that would weaken the conference.

doesnt boone have to widen the road first and make stadium improvements...

btw that school has gotten huge

U are probably right. But I didn't see Bill Curry getting UGA or GT players to GSU, and so what? He wasnt expected to. PF would not get back in the game for the purpose of competing at the highest level-- many UT fans forget he's already climbed that mountain. PF may just want to get back in the game for the love of it and the game would be better with Fulmer in it. Folks should accept it for what it is and be proud PF is taking on a project IN TENNESSEE. If it happens, it's huge for that community. Haters gonna hate I suppose.

I'm not really sure what it is you're trying to say. I'm simply saying they won't be fighting UT for recruits as another individual was insinuating they would. Your post...completely out of left field, as my comments were not meant to be negative towards ETSU or Fulmer in any way.

Go to their wiki entry. There's all sorts of links to various news articles that back up what I said in my post. It's all there.

Overheard etsu president talking over fulmer hire and presser tommorrow. Completes control of program rebuild an start up.also agreed to build outdoor stadium to seal deal.i think this a great thing for our area ,economy, and all etsu atheletics. Also for our area highschool atheletes have another option to play college football.

You know if this doesn't happen, you can never show ur face on forums again.

What, and leave the great white elephant(mini dome) with only basketball! Man, I would like to know who got the kickbacks for building that thing!!!

ive heard it called a lot of things, great white elephant is a new one.

i cant ever imagine a scenario in which one could green light a project as such. its a horrific eyesore, and truly takes up a ton of room in a small campus area.

but its there and it isnt going anywhere and is good for track and field.

its time to level for etsu to move on, asu has almost lapped them in 10 years

For those of you who have a mental picture of the ETSU side of Johnson City, the new football stadium has been proposed for three different locations: Next to the current soccer stadium, in the large overfill parking lot behind bojangles and knights pizza (wouldn't effect parking because of new parking garage going up behind Warf-Pickel), and lastly up on the hill near Buc Ridge Apartments (which I think would be the most unlikely place for it).

i don't get any of this. why are you feeding this troll? we have our hc and there's no rumors about firing him, so there's no need for these awful "presser tomorrow at noon" threatds
