Evening Scrimmage Notes

Why all the Neal hate going on around here?
Dude busted a 98 yard td, that's what we need to happen because the QBs and wrs aren't going to get it done alone.
Maybe Neal had a great off season and is being coached better. He knows this is last year and he wants a chance to make some money so he picked it up.
Once they watch the film, was it Neal or bad defense.
Folks it's the first scrimmage.
They can improve and build on it.
Trust in Butch!
GO BIG ORANGE!!!

Love the fact tht CBJ said that this team has to overachieve.
Previous staff and lame duck head coach just pushed his team alright, right under the bus.
Butch is going to get this team ready and u expect atleast one upset this year.
We could surprise a few teams this year.

I don't understand all the hate on Neal. He was having a solid year last year pre-injury, although I didn't think he looked the same when he came back.

Maybe Neal's attitude he had to run for is getting him some flack! Hopefully he is getting the proper coaching that was lacking last year! Hope the kid breaks several 90+ runs this year!

UT's film crew is outstanding. They make scrimmages look exciting. Really like their editing and filming style.

It is a nicely made video with all the quick cuts and the music--but I like watching the videos to pick up little things about players on both sides of the ball--who looks like a player and who not--and you couldn't get that with this.

Did they keep up with stats? I'd like to know about turnovers and special teams

They said there were no turnovers in the post scrimmage comments.

They didn't keep stats because it was situational work, not a full scrimmage.

Probst caused a fumble late that Bynum recovered. No int's

I’ve been a part of two championships in the last two years with teams that have been picked fourth and fifth in their football conferences.

That's encouraging.

Good info. Yeah, I don't ever see Neal popping off a 98 yard run just off his ability.

I like that he focuses on drops so much. Receivers have got to focus on simply making the catch. YAC means nothing if there's no catching going on.

I'm glad that QBs are showing more consistency. Weird that the second team had a drive like that. Dobbs was QB for second team (not because he's second string) but Peterman and Ferguson had the night off so to speak.

I love that they're helping Fugate. Shows a lot about this staff what they're doing for him and Jabo Lee.

Are u joking. Neal has electric speed. I think a couple of years ago he was the fastest player on the team. At the time we had hunter and d Moore. He's just been held back by the team as a whole (like everybody else)

His longest break has been 29 yards. He was not held back. They gave him the ball behind this offensive line, the rest is up to him.

I'm not bashing the guy. I know he's fast, and I know he's had the potential to be incredible. But if he doesn't reach it this year, he will be considered a bust by me and many others. Honestly, Raijon is one of the most talented players we have. But he has never done a good job at hitting holes when he needs to.

Like I said, I hope he has a great year. But judging on the fact that after his 98 yard run Butch was ticked at the defense tells me that it wasn't something that Raijon was expected or supposed to do.

Your right Neal has always had great speed and one of the fastest guys on the team. But he has always been his own worst enemy. He dances too much, goes east to west way too often and doesnt have great vision, which limits his ability to hit the hole. Yeah I know twss. But if he would learn to use his size and speed and start going North and South he could have a breakout yr. I know his first few yrs, just like the other RB's, not having a true RB Coach hurt their development. But Graham last season and Gillespie this year should benefit them all and learn what it takes from a coach that has played RB in the SEC, last yr and this yr.

Week 1 from Eugene: A few highlights from the Duck camp.
1. TE Colt Lyerla trimmed down to 250 pounds and is faster than last year
2. They say Thomas is faster than last year
3. Defensive line has been dominating the offensive line.
4. Tyner is looking really good on special teams.
