He was pretty broken up about it at first, but then he remembered that he is a millionaire, does not have the same belief system that I do, coaches a top 25 basketball team and is a celebrity. When he found out the context he laughed and said that he was hoping his stalker from Volnation had moved on to a woman by now. He also said he does not use a tanning bed, he just takes his shirt off alot. His final challenge was interesting, he wanted hatvol to try to do 1 rep of the amount he bench presses in sets.

I really only have one other suggestion. It think Hat and his underlings should simply put the following into their sigs

"I hate Bruce Pearl, anything associated with Bruce Pearl, Bruce Pearl's children, and when those children have children I will hate them too. I also hate anyone who is anyway supports or condones Bruce Pearl as our coach, and their children, and when they have children I will hate them too"

This way you can simply state your vitrol for all too see without wasting 20,000 of your next 30,000 posts saying the same thing over and over and over. Then maybe we can all sit down and actually talk about basketball. Just a thought.

Its just one possibility. The others are more likely. I would say jealousy is the clear leader, but then I read the bashing based on the long nights spent in bars watching Pearl like a freaking Geico money pile and I started thinking maybe it was about a lady...

That's how they have to play their hand. They can't live with the fact that someone who has spent more time around big time D-I coaches than they ever will simply thinks their hero is a stooge and a douche. Thus, they are forced to play out their silly fantasies as to why I detest him. It can't just be that he's a snitch and a phony. That would ruin their lie.

I've just read the entire thread. So...the big debate is how CP get's his tan? I've been told by many friends that excercise along the blvd. by the river that CP takes his shirt off...a lot. However, he keeps that tan right on thru Dec. which would mean? I thought this was a thread on expectations for the BB team this season, it was entertaining though. Ya'll keep up the good work.

Well, I'm sure you speak for everyone in the biz, undoubtedly.

The reason we think it is beyond just thinking he's a phony is how you attack him. It's obvious it's personal to everyone but you. You are like a junkie who refuses intervention. You say nonsensical stuff like "he'll flame out in two years" and bring up the whole "snitch" deal, which is twenty damn years ago!!

But, go on, label me a "follower", "pearlophile", whatever moronic name to justify your BS position. Keep on believing you are the Yoda of basketball because you get to hang out with a bunch of coaches like some groupie. Most of us can see your charade a mile away.

I asked a long time ago whether hat is an Illinois grad. I am more and more certain he has a tie to that program.

Look I have a friend who was a big 10 asst. coach for a NC winning program during the Tom Davis era and the Pearl scandal and he said the only people who still hate Pearl over that time period are Illinois people.

If someone was going out of their way to bash Fulmer 20 years from now, you can bet that they are a UT fan who still wakes up in a cold sweat dreaming of Wyoming, or an Alabama fan who would punch Kenny Smith in the face if he was not lots bigger and stronger than them.

The way he calls him a snitch and talks about hanging out with big time coaches leads me to have a guess...it is not Jimmy Collins, it is not Deon Thomas or his mom, but it is a guy who looks up to Jimmy Collins.

Must drive him crazy that Bruce Pearl in on track to accomplish a great deal more than Lou Henson and to do it without being a cheating scumbag.

So, hanging out with one's friends, many of whom I've known for going on twenty years, makes one a ""groupie?" That's an interesting take. Especially coming from a guy with a schoolboy crush on a coach who's never won anything and proudly talks about being at said unaccomplished coach's last two stops.

The sample size is a large enough percentage of D-I coaches and the sentiment overwhelming enough that it would be considered scientifically far more accurate than anything Gallup or Zogby runs.

Give him a rest sometimes though, I am really wanting him to have the time to bring some of his "insider" status to bear.

I personally know a Big 10 asst coach with a NC ring who I talk to from time to time, a few high school coaches who currently have players who are being highly recruited and that is about all.

I would go to a coaches convention and buy friends with my credit card, but I have already stated how I feel about hanging out in bars...

Ever since Bruce Pearl has been the coach of this team...Hat has been there to criticize what he has done. Frankly, it is getting old!

Hat, exactly why do you hate Pearl? He hasn't won a national championship, but no other UT coach in our history has done more in the same time frame than Pearl has done. He is a good salesman and has sold our program. I don't agree with everything he does, but will acknowledge that he has improved our program. Time will only tell if he can take us to another level. Jerry Green had great success, until tournament time, with Oneal's recruits. Other than that, I can't think of any recent coach who has reached Pearl's success level.

2. What follows after "complain" is the subject that is being complained about

Therefore, the suggestion is that people are so hung up on associating intelligence/realism with negativity that they are willing to COMPLAIN that their negative take(read: hatred) is more thoroughly negative than another's, as though that's an indicator of knowledge.

And he's right, it's weird.

The poles are as reliable as the polls: the response to 'homerism' should never be 'anti-' on all fronts. For some reason that's what some people think the solution is, and, as you pointed out, it's just as dumb.

I don't like his style of play. I don't like his lack of attention to detail. I don't personally like him. The harder question for me to answer would be "Hat, is there anything you do like about Bruce Pearl?"

1. Pearl sells himself. Any benefit to the program is peripheral.
2. Jerry Green went just as deep into the 'AAs as Pearl has.
