F1 thread

I must say I was kind of looking forward to FOTA's breakaway series.

Either way, just glad they got it all sorted out so all of the top teams can remain together on the same track.

1. they do? is that why they're always changing the rules?

2. the IRL doesn't? surely you don't believe that.

If you're really gonna try and compare the Carpentiers, Foyt IVs, Visos, Fishers and Dunos to the Blaneys, Sadlers, Hamiltons and so on, fine. And even at the top NASCAR has the better drivers. Smoke, Johnson, Gordon, Edwards, even Kahne, and that's before I even mention Montoya, Allmendinger and Speed, who would be running away with it if they were in the IRL.

AOWR is where decent drivers go to die, and young drivers go to get money to go back overseas or to another series, but take too much time and get stuck anyway. And it'll be that way until they rid of the puss ass Dallara's and get more powerful engines in a non spec series.

and i'll believe Mosley is out when he's really and truely gone. from what i gather, he won't seek another election, but really isn't stepping down either.

Looks like we have a winner...

Formula 1's future has been thrown into turmoil once again, with FIA president Max Mosley saying he is now keeping his future options open because of what he has called 'deliberate attempts' by teams to mislead the media.

Just 24 hours after Mosley reached a deal with FOTA to end the threat of a breakaway series, he has reacted angrily to what he calls 'false claims' made by the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) about the nature of their agreement.

"Given your and FOTA's deliberate attempt to mislead the media, I now consider my options open," wrote Mosley in the letter. "At least until October, I am president of the FIA with the full authority of that office.

"After that it is the FIA member clubs, not you or FOTA, who will decide on the future leadership of the FIA."

The letter makes it clear that unless FOTA moves to address his complaints, then the deal that was agreed on Wednesday could collapse. The letter was sent prior to Thursday's FOTA press conference in Bologna, where Mosley had hoped an apology would be made - something which was not forthcoming.

And on we go...

Bourdais out at Toro Rosso...

autosport.com - F1 News: Toro Rosso confirms Bourdais' exit

Just how good is Vettel? Toro Rosso sucked before he got there, and they suck now that he's gone...

Doesn't sound like Piquet is going to last much longer at Renault either.

Vettel is still good, but circumstance did play a part as well. Bourdais was quick as well in 2008, it's just when he was quick, the car failed on him, such as when it quit in Australia, and when it stalled on the grid in Monza, when he probably could have finished on the podium.

Massa will not race tomorrow after being hit in the head by a piece of debris from Barrichello's car. Somewhat graphic photo...

Shoot, it's sounding like he's lucky it wasn't anything much bigger than what it was even with the advanced helmets.

I read a report on another site this morning (no idea how accurate) that said he had two separate skull fractures. One was a basil skull fracture - the kind that killed Earnhardt, Neil Bonnet, and many others.

That same report said he was woken up this morning but was very confused and combative so they quickly put him back under. I can only hope and pray that this hasn't given him permanent and severe brain damage.

it's not uncommon for a surgery patient to awake and act like that.

During Brickyard pre race coverage, did anyone hear a nascar diver tell a reporter that Massa and his family and crew were in their thoughts? I didn't, and I thought it would have been a classy move for the NASCAR community to let the F1 community know that they were thinking of them...

ESPN reports Massa's condition no longer considered life threatening, but the prognosis on his left eye is still unknown.

Good news that he'll make it. What a freak accident.

It is unusual for sure, but after seeing the Surtees incident and considering how much stuff flies off these cars when they impact something, it is actually amazing it doesn't happen more often.

Bye-bye BMW?

autosport.com - F1 News: F1 braced for BMW exit announcement

BMW's future in Formula 1 is in serious doubt amid mounting speculation that the German car manufacturer will announce its withdrawal from the sport at the end of this season, on Wednesday.

An emergency press conference has been called at BMW's headquarters in Munich, where it is suggested that the car company may reveal that it has decided to end its involvement in F1.

Quite a fall for them in the last year or so... from being easily the third best team behind Ferrari & McLaren in 2008, to their sorry season still in progress this year, to completely out of the sport in 2010.
