Fauci-gate

Fauci said under oath in May 2020 that Ralph Baric was not involved in gain of function research yet his emails show him sending someone a PDF attachment entitled Baric-Gain of Function

That sounds like perjury to me. What say you?
Lying under oath sounds like perjury to me.

Did he have his fingers crossed at the time?

Here's my concern where we are now:

1. We're still finding things out, bit by bit.
2. There's tremendous spin and selective usage of the information coming out.
3. There's a chance that there may be a different conclusion become apparent once all information is out on the table.
4. A different widely accepted conclusion than the desired one may be ignored, and those whose narrative is no longer the accepted one may continue to push

Relative truth is wild. I prefer to address my bias by letting this play all the way out before firmly adopting a position.

Consider that his testimony may have been truthful and that pdf may have been accurate.

Do we know the dates of research noted in the pdf? Would it be possible that the pdf was for previous research that was no longer in process?

The issue is motivation.

The ONLY motivation of the right to continue to minimize covid is to try to excuse the disastrous lack of leadership from Trump last year. To excuse his nonsense rambling and crazy nutjob claims.

The right is pushing all in on Trump and as the truth about him continues to emerge they are bound to see one day that they should have folded long ago.

Of course there's more investigation that needs to happen, hence the parts of the email that were redacted under FOIA B7(A), but from the tone of those e-mails (urgent) Fauci was awfully worried about something

You know how all of this could have been avoided?

The various levels of government and bureaucracy could have gave us factual information as they had it and let us make our own decisions about how to deal with the virus. I know, crazy thought letting adults make their own decisions and not using the pandemic as a means to grab and consolidate power.

This Thread is not about the seriousness of Covid. It's about Fauci.

It's got nothing to do with Trump. The right isn't into fear porn. That fact doesn't mean they want to "minimize C19". It just means they don't want to play Chicken Little like the left does

Really bad take. Questioning Fauci and minimizing Covid are not synonymous. Unless you are saying Fauci is covid or covid is Fauci.

For "right is pushing" to have merit, the posters who aren't righty red hats would not care about the accuracy or intention of the head of the CDC. Many do.

What is/was the motivation of the left in trying to convince the world that the effectiveness of masks was scientifically established? What is/was the motivation of the left to refer to the theory that Covid was lab generated as a some sort of crackpot conspiracy?

And why should I listen to the CDC on recommendations for vaccinating my children when their leader has been caught red handed as a liar?

The media associated with the right is, though. A reasonable bystander assessment of right-leaning media outlets has demonstrated a high use of fear-based incitement techniques (generally towards an "other" rather than non-human situations), followed by anger-based incitement techniques. Positive news is generally followed by a transition into who or what could negatively affect that news.

Left-leaning media tends to focus on fear of trends or events rather than people but follows the same practices from that point forward.

Posting in both threads but probably more appropriate here.

I think on the science end of things, yes. This Dr. Fauci guy seems to have real credibility on both sides of the aisle. And, he has walked back and/or corrected a number of Trump's false claims over the last week.
I think what has the non-Trump slurper world frustrated with him is the constant lying and minimization. Just yesterday, as Dr. Fauci was testifying to Congress that the testing problems have been a failure and unacceptable, Trump was telling reporters that the testing was going fine and bragging about it.
Why didn't he let Fauci answer the question about the hydoxy....????
I cannot think of a single person who would not want this drug, or combo, to offer a real alternative for people who get CoVid-19. But, as a scientist Fauci is waiting on sufficient evidence to make a call one way or the other. There are double blind trials going on as we speak, we should have some meaningful results next week on whether it really works.
Had we embraced masks and similar measures when the experts like Fauci and the CDC concluded we should have, you might be right. Sadly, Trump and many Republican governors insisted on perpetuating the lie that masks and some consistent closures were not necessary. The outcome we have now is a DIRECT result of Republican and Trump ineptitude. They are going to pay dearly at the ballot box for a long time to come.

Surprise, lawgator picked the wrong person to give instant credibility to just because Trump had the audacity to question him.
