I think the idea behind that is the mother being asked the question is struggling with the answer herself so she really isn't quite sure what to say. She's in disbelief of what she's seeing.
It's a tv show about zombies. It isn't real.Even if they don't full understand what's going on, it's pretty clear that they understand those who are sick present are mortal threat to everyone they are near.
What's so hard about saying "sick people will attack you, stay away"?!
Leaving their daughter in the dark is putting her life at risk; most parents instincts would have kicked in by now to save their children at all costs.

I was confused by the skip week too. Just went to watch and couldn't find it. Had to Google it to see what the deal was.
Yeah I'm digging this! Loving the military intervention toward the end. One of the biggest questions I have about twd is how the military tried to handle the event and what was their ultimate demise
Ok this show is getting pretty awesome. That view of the city power outage was eerie. The hospital scene was great too. Doing a great job demonstrating how helpless everyone is becoming.
