What year did Peyton throw those 4 int to Florida ? Freshman ? or senior ? I think folks had higher hopes for JM based on his time playing college ball and also based on some games he's played well but you never know which JM is gonna show up.

He was a JR. He also threw 2 interceptions against FL the next year as a SR.

Can't argue with that.
I mean you can look off a guy. It happens but imo he threw it to the wrong guy. I like the methodical drive it down the field version. We need to take points when given also. That's on Heupel. It lets the defense stay fresh. But we must have the ability to complete the deep ball.

Name me one QB in the lat 20 years at UT that has not had games like JM. If I remember right, Peyton had 4 Ints against Florida. I think UT fans are being way too hard on Joe. Does it make me more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs? YES!
Joe is a 6th year senior. There is no excuse for him to look like a freshman at times.

I hated the interception, but to your point, up until that play it was a methodical drive. Even though it ended badly, that drive, IMO, set the tone that UT was dominant.

The Vols are close my man. Clean up the drops and miscues, and UT could put together a win against a team like Alabama. Totally possible this weekend.

You and I will disagree; the WRs had plenty of opportunities to make catches. aTm is still a very good defense; UT found a way to win with the rushing, and to me, a W is better than a bunch of yards, and UT gets an L. This is a team sport, and at one time or another, the OL or the WRs had chances to make this a higher-scoring game...jmo

My point, we won and that is that.

Had Joe thrown form 200+ yards, many of the UT fans would have found fault in other areas of the game. It was easy to see the negatives after the game.

Yes good QBs have had bad games. That’s not what makes me nervous. What does is the fact that the coaches did not seem to trust him to throw after that pick. Yes we were running the ball well, but it sure seemed like they wanted to take the game out of Joe’s hands (and against a bad A&M secondary).
Yes, but CJH did what it took to win, which is HIS job.

We won in spite of our QB. 100 passing yards isn't going to beat most teams. Or DL and RBs were our saving grace.

You're welcome.

I wouldn't bench JM. It isn't all on him. A lot of problems are that the WRs are not as good as advertised. How would putting in a freshman help the WRs?

WRs would likely play worse with Nico right now. By all accounts the players love Milton and even beyond that, the chemistry/continuity wouldn’t be there yet with Nico.

Looking forward to Nico in the future but Joe is our guy this year for better or worse.

Peyton threw 4 INTs against UF in 1996 in Neyland. Same year he threw for 2 INTs against Memphis

Texas A&M was playing something that Saban used a lot at Alabama when Kirby was there. They call this route-matching Cover 3. You can tell by the alignment of the corners. At the 2:20 mark, you will notice how the bottomside corner is aligned with his eyes directly on the slot. This is a dead giveaway. However, it is important to note that initially, they were not in cover 3. They were in cover 6, a variant of cover 3 where the single side corner is playing cover one or cover two, and the trips side is playing quarters. However, when motioning to a 2x2 set, the corners read #2 and the slots read #1. There is a landmark, usually ten yards, where the defenders have to make a decision. If #2 cuts it short before that mark, then the slot stays on #2. If #2 goes vertical, then the corner stays with #2, and the slot covers #1. This was the answer to 2x2 formations and cover 3. Otherwise, you could just run four vertical routes, and the offense was 4v3 defenders. It was free points for the offense. This is exactly what you see on the first part of the review. Then when we went to a lot of stuff with tight ends, they went to a standard man defense. We were not good at getting open. Milton also stares at one guy and if he does not get open, he just freezes. On the 4th and two play, he locks on to Sampson, who he seems to really trust, but Sampson gets stuck between the TE and Keyton, so Joe runs himself out of space. FWIW, that play looked like either terrible execution or design, because even on a levels concept those three should not be that close. The spacing was really bad.

Joe Milton just isn’t good qb even after 6 years. Still trying to check out of plays with 2 seconds on the play clock. Accuracy is awful. When you see plays like the Ole Miss play a couple years ago and the free play this past Saturday where he ran out of bounds you know he just doesn’t have what it takes between the ears to play at a moderately high level.

Well, the QB gets a little more confident when the WRs catch the ball once in awhile. Can't blame it all on Joe. At the same time he (overall) needs to get rid of the ball faster.
