Film breakdown of JM's plays

You and I will disagree; the WRs had plenty of opportunities to make catches. aTm is still a very good defense; UT found a way to win with the rushing, and to me, a W is better than a bunch of yards, and UT gets an L. This is a team sport, and at one time or another, the OL or the WRs had chances to make this a higher-scoring game...jmo

My point, we won and that is that.

I really like that we won this grind it out game. Defense should have a ton of confidence going into T-town.

The offense…well the good news is we haven’t hit the ceiling yet. Eventually we’ve got to have a game where receivers run good routes, Joe finds the open dudes, and they catch what is thrown their way, right??

If you allow the DB's to grab the arms of the receivers as the ball arrives its gonna be tough to make plays regardless of the execution or play design. I don't know what's happened to Keyton, the guy made so many plays last year and he couldn't catch a cold this year. Thornton's even worse. He was lights out at Oregon and now can't catch a pass to save his life. Its got to be a "head" thing with these guys because they have proven their good football players in the past. Inexplicable and inexcusable.

I would say Peyton would have preferred a W over stats.

Definitely agree but if he had of onky thrown for 109 that game is an even bigger loss. We beat TAM because of D and a punt return for TD. Without that return we lose. Milton throw a pick in the end zone to a wide open safety. That game win had as little to do with him as possible.

Good break down and the clearest view of all the PIs that were missed.

Looks like the way the DB was coached to grab the bicep. All the plays have the same technique.
See my post nearby about Institutionalized Pass Interference. Should be reviewable call and spot foul.

Thanks for the terrific film breakdown and commentary! Vols are winning and gaining confidence and no team in the SEC is invincible. Milton should improve with more game experience and I expect Josh to roll the dice against Bama with imaginative play calling on Saturday. Hope the offensive line is reasonably healthy.

Name me one QB in the lat 20 years at UT that has not had games like JM. If I remember right, Peyton had 4 Ints against Florida. I think UT fans are being way too hard on Joe. Does it make me more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs? YES!

Watched a good chunk of it. Nice to see someone who actually knows what they are talking about break it down.

Really just confirmed what I already thought. Joe isn’t great but neither are the WR. As a unit they both need to get better.

The OL had some busts too but TAM does have a great front and that is just going to happen sometimes.

The game u mention he threw for 395 yards and multiple TDs against against one of the best Gator teams ever. Milton threw for 109. Yes QBs hsve bad games but Milton is bad game after game. He is JG level and ppl just need to except it. He was bad at Michigan. He was bad here before he got benched and he’s bad now. He will never be Hooker level, Iceman level, or even Bray level. Bray would be killing it this year with this team. Ppl just need to except that Milton will never be the leading reason we win. We win this year with rushing, special teams and defense.
For the most part I agree but Keyton, Thornton are a complete disappointment and without those two playing .... of it they just do their job, Miltons stats look just a little better. They are all 3 a liability at this point. Milton isn’t going anywhere, so how about we see more of Nimrod and Webb along with using the TEs

So, is it time for Joe to go? Based on the film analysis, I would have to say no. There were about 3 bad plays that were attributable to Joe. A few were not good, but not real bad either. The WRs were awful. If Keyton catches the ball and the PI non-calls were made, it's probably a blow-out.

The whole squad looks disconnected like they all just transferred in from the portal this season. I do think there is a lack of confidence despite the bravado from Joe, and I think it feeds into both sides.

The problem with JM's lack.of progression is that it handcuffs the Offense. Do you think Milton could have done what Hooker did in the last drive to.beat the Gumps? No way in ****. Not even close.

How many guys could do what Hooker did ? When was the last time we beat them or a big opponent on the last second ? Clausen at Bama in the 5 OT game ? Dobbs also at UGA. Happens about once per decade. Unrealistic as hell to expect every qb to do something miraculous. For 1 the opportunities are rare, 2 any qb is only as good as the guys around him and our wr are not of that caliber

Wr's are not getting out of their breaks and were swallowed up a lot. OL has to block, WR needs to run crisp clean routes and finish them, not to mention catch the ball. Joe needs to deliver the ball and stop throwing late. The int was a poor read at best. The throw was good just to the wrong guy.
exactly. seems like keyton is the best at separating from the db's, but sadly he's had the least reliable hands this season.

If two different players who have performed well in a previous year fail to do so the following year it's possible the problem is the trajectory and/or velocity of the ball.

What Milton needs is Hyatt running down the field with no defender within 15 yards of him like Hooker had many times last year
We do not have a route runner on this team that is anywhere near Hyatt. It sucks but it is true. Hyatt was great at setting a defender up. The speed at which he ran his routes and then turning on the jets which most of the time looked like he jogging into the end zone. We miss him and Tillman a lot. They were together consistently good for Hooker in being where they were supposed to be and catching the ball. Hooker was very good at putting the ball where they could go get it. I wouldn't say Hooker is faster in a straight line than Milton, however Hooker was a lot harder to handle because of his decision making.

That doesn't matter you are an SEC D1 wr. Catch the damn ball. He caught Joes ball in the Orange Bowl. He Caught them against Vandy. Catch the football, that is ultimately why he is on the field. Just like Joe... The one he dropped for a TD is inexcusable not 1 single Justification. That is 3 this year. Catch it

Do you think most QBs could? No. Hooker had a Heisman like season and you're putting him on a pedestal. There's no way he was going to put perform hooker.
