Fire Mike Hamilton (merged)

Bottom line: Hamilton can raise money, very well. He is much less effective at all the other jobs the AD has to do and he has done nothing for us. At this point, Hamilton has got to go. There are plenty of people out there that are capable of doing both. End rant.

this is like having a lawyer who is reprimanded by the bar, loses most of his cases, embarrasses his firm......but, did bring in a couple of new clients.

Reprimanded by the bar = ncaa...yep.
Loses most of his cases...nope.
Embarrasses his firm...his hire's have but have to go to #1.
Bring in a couple of new clients...how about brought in more revenue than in the history of the firm.

Probably no Pat Haden, but one of the hundreds of million with an intelligence rank above Hamilton, but below Haden, could surely help. Especially, if you throw in one with enough leadership, vision, and PR management skill.

Even still-how exactly is Haden going to look if he keeps Kiffin around with sanctions about to follow him to USC on top of the sanctions already imposed? I hope this does not get lost in this mess-Haden came to USC in almost fire and brimestone fashion in an effort to clean up their Athletics Department. It would be a hard sell on that platform to keep Kiffin around after what was detailed in the LOA. We are about to find out how big of a hypocrite Hayden is.

one of the things i don't get is the following......

we can fire pearl because there are other good basketball coaches who can win games and pearl is not UT basketball......

but, we can't fire hamilton because apparently there are no other potential good athletic directors out there who could also raise a lot of money and upgrade facilities. hamilton must be UT athletics or something.

I honestly think the only fear some have in Hamilton getting fired is what a new AD would do with Dooley. It's not like a new AD would be walking into a program with a coach with a track record-even Dooley's staunchest defenders/supporters (you can put me at the top) admit this. He has been a stablizing force, recruited well, but he has a losing record at UT at the moment. Would a new AD come in-give him a year, and then decide to bring in "their own guy?"

The damage that would cause could be devestating. This program can not sustain another coaching change within the next 2 years-and a new AD brings that possibility.

this is like having a lawyer who is reprimanded by the bar, loses most of his cases, embarrasses his firm......but, did bring in a couple of new clients.part of my angst is that i fully believe that hamilton is culpable for what has occurred. i don't think the actions of the people running these programs was not known to the athletic department.

especially, when it comes to kiffin and hamilton defended kiffin publicly at every opportunity no matter what the situation. hamilton and tennessee should send a large check to pete carroll and thank god that the usc job opened up. who knows what further damage that man would have caused with more time and an athletic director who was going to look the other way.

This is nothing like that-unless those clients held on retainer pay for the expenses of the entire firm. He runs one of only 10 self-sustaining athletic departments in the entire country, and has done so while dumping millions into upgrading facilities. Say what you want about his mistakes, but he deserves actual credit for those other aspects of his run as AD.

And all this "failure" costs the University of Tennessee $0 every year.

Did anyone mention that Forde is kind of an ass? Bashing Dooley with 11-men-on-the-field jokes is going pretty far afield from Hamilton's lack of oversight of the men's athletic programs.

Hamilton has no control over women's sports. Funny since your link in the OP stated exactly that

UTAD actually still made money

More than kind of....I'm surprised he didnt blame Mike for nc having too many on the field in the mcb.

i've said it before, and i'll say it again. mike hamilton is an awful athletic director. he is weak. his defenders constantly bring up his fundraising abilities and facility improvement during his time as AD. my response to them: honestly, how freaking hard is that? tn has one of the most passionate fan bases in the country with a ton of cash to donate. im pretty sure anyone with a pulse and a functional IQ could bring in money for our athletic dept. when was the last time (if ever) our athletic department didnt make money? hammy gets far too much credit for that. on the other side, some of you give him almost zero blame for the mess the athletic department is in. i dont care what you say. at the end of the day, the blame falls at the feet of mike hamilton. he let us get to where we are and he should suffer the consequences before anyone.

I think he was trying to say Dooley is far from proven to be a good hire (which was true), but said it a little ass-ish (I know that's not a word).
