Five-Star Buzz U

Rushing is a little unfair as is Mauigoa. We got in late on Rushing and just got outbid for Mauigoa. According to On3 though we have a better NIL collective than Miami/Ruiz. It’s the other misses that hurt (Jared Verse, Lucas Simmons, Stanton Ramil, Vic Burley, Kamarion Franklin, Kam Fountain, Marques Easley, and Bennett Warren). Elarbee couldn’t close the door of a deep freezer and while RG did a phenomenal job with Tyre West and Daevin Hobbs he's not done worth a damn this cycle. Insiders said towards the end of last years recruiting cycle that we wouldn’t see the rewards of last years success until this year because the staff spent a lot more time developing relationships with the 2024 class than the remaining uncommitted players late in 2023. That doesn’t seem to be the case though. I don’t think it’s on Heupel being too nice though. I just don’t think Elarbee can recruit and Spyre has too much invested across our entire athletic department rather than focusing almost entirely on football like they should. I don’t think the sky is falling, but at the moment Mike Matthews, Jordan Ross, Cai Bates, Danny Okoye, Edwin Spillman, William Satterwhite, and Amari Jefferson are must gets. I don’t care about Braylen Russell with Lewis already on board, and landing a top 5 OT and DT through the portal are now essential. If not we’re in trouble at those positions come 2025. Which was the year we were on pace to win an SEC Championship going into this off-season in my opinion

I agree with a lot of your post, but how have we missed on Kamarion Franklin?!? Have I missed some new Breaking news? The last I heard, Franklin was all Vol.

i posted this several days ago in the other thread....but i think it applies here. obviously, this was before RC committed to clemson, and Rushing wasn't on my list of hopefuls at the time. but i think the point still stands as i believe everyone else is still viable, and doesn't included satterwhite either. with that..............i think it's safe to say, still, that we've still got plenty out in front of us to look forward to, and things are not as bad as some would want you to believe.

i've seen several posts over the past few weeks talking about where we'll be ranked and that it should be top 5 if we get this or that etc....i've seen some others with maybe some more realistic in the top 10.

obviously not all recruiting services are created equal, but for the sake of argument since 247 has the calculator, i went and plugged in the following to our class:

1687972821612-png.559651

i think everyone would agree that if this is how we finished, we'd be very happy......

our class total closing that way is:
1687972877950-png.559652

so 2 things...how would that look on the national rankings the past few years? how does it compare with our previous classes point totals?
2023: 8th--277 points we finished 10th.
2022: 6th--233 points we finished 17th.
2021: 5th--219 points, we finished 22nd
2020: 6th--261 points, we finished 11th
2019: 3rd--270 points, we finished 13th
2018: 4th--231 points, we finished 21st
2017: 7th--237 points, we finished 17th
2016: 4th--253 points, we finished 14th
2015: 3rd--286 points, we finished 4th

no idea how it translates this year, but UGA is already at 297 pts for '24 and is currently #1. we have 220 points right now, 14 commits, 90 average, 12th nationally. Alabama is currently 32nd with 8 commits, but a 94 average, with 179 points. so they've got some upward mobility as they close their class out.

i point this out only to say that i think the rankings are at best a guide. no one would argue with closing our class out with the guys i plugged in there, and we'd all think that's great. i just wouldn't get hung up on the number next to us when it's all said and done. it's not likely going to be top 5. but should fall somewhere in the 6-8 range easily. looking at the rankings right now, you can probably pencil UGA, Bama, OSU, Florida, Clemson, LSU and Oregon in the top 10. us, South Carolina, USC, Penn St, ND, Michigan all hanging around there as well, though i expect a few of those to come back to the pack so to speak.

if we close this class out like we seem to be on track to do, regardless of where it ranks, it's potentially the best class we've had in more than a decade.....and is the 2nd class in a row to what i would call "stacking classes". in fact, i went back as far back as 247 class rankings go (2010) and we've never had a class finish with that point total. closest was 2015.

5* Edge Kamarion Franklin will be a Vol, IMO! I do agree we need that elite OT to anchor our Oline, though.
"Elite"? Heupel's O de-emphasizes the need for an "elite" OT. UT didn't have an elite LT last fall. Good. Not elite.

And the portal may be a better source than HS for OTs.

...and we had 30 commits in 2015. That class wasn't nearly as good as this recruiting class has the potential to be.

Led with Nwaneri. Miss.
Supposed to land Rushing. Miss.
Led with Mauigoa. Miss.
Can’t close our top OL targets.

Heupel is a nice guy, and we all know what the saying is about where nice guys finish. This staff is too soft when it comes to pushing for commitments. You need big uglies to win in the SEC. Maybe Heupel likes flashy offense too much to understand that. If things don’t change, we’ll be chasing the mighty Dawgs until the end of days. Even Beamer is crootin better than us.

…am I doing this right?

*This has been a Nited post.

EVERY school loses 5 star players. Now if we lose out on all of Ross, Fountain, Mathews and Wingo then maybe. We just landed a highly rated OL that is college ready. Mathews is predicted to us, a highly rated RB from Arky is trending Vols. Also the Vols are trending or lead for with Fountain, Ross, Bates, Warren, Okoye, Spillman, Jefferson, ( possibly) Singleton, Anderson and Wingo. I mentioned 12 players we are in on, 13 if you count Satterwhite today. If we can get 7+ of those 13 to go with what we have already, will make a helluva top 10 class.

Y'all realize no one "misses" on more top 150 players than Bama, georgia, and Ohio state. Because they're in 90% of the top 3 and top 5. The fact we're in the top group for this many blue chippers tells you where our recruiting is. Y'all have no idea how to act getting more than 3 or 4 top 150s a year

Facts!!

Last I checked, we haven't lost Warren or Franklin.

No, some people just don’t live on message boards. Satterwhite is great pickup. We still need elite OT/DTs though
LOL... you're here when you have an opportunity to criticize Heupel or gripe or make one of your poorly based and reasoned "opinions".

And yeah, I've noticed you ghosting other good news too.

Because I don’t post a gif or “boooooom” when someone commits I’m hiding out right? Grow up

It had an elite RT last year and Darnell Wright locking up Will Anderson was a big reason why we won

Very good player. The point is that this scheme doesn't put the same pressure on OT's than more traditional schemes. That's not just my opinion. It has been talked about by some of the talking heads.

No. I seldom do that either. I just don't ghost like you do as if I'm disappointed... only to come back after the high to spew more negative BS.

Anyone who has been here any length of time can tell you I'm critical of things at various times. Ask any JG fan here how that went with me. I had rounds with several people over Jones. But I try to be very, very careful NOT to do what you do... which is speak without good information and draw ironclad conclusions without ironclad PROOF.

You make criticisms out of ignorance and assumption. You draw conclusions before things are even concluded. And then when something contradicts you... you ghost until you think people will have forgotten.

That position is also a developmental position. 3/4 stars can develop over a few years. Elite QB's, WR's, edges, and DB's are much more impactful.

Our resident Chik'n Lils always ignore the reality of most good OLs. A lot more of them are "built" than discovered. Most good OLs are developed over a few years unless they're forced into starting roles by roster issues. Even the highly rated OLs usually take a couple of years to be truly ready to compete.

That's why of all the positions OL "rankings" are the least meaningful as long as a team is getting a consistent flow of talent in their development program.
