Five-star SG Anfernee Simons visiting this weekend

I hope he comes here, but the last projection I saw was the 15 - 20 pick. I'm not sure why he is not going pro. Why risk injury?

Going from 15-20 to 5-10 can nearly double his salary.

With 1 year of good coaching and solid effort from himself, he could make a huge jump in salary.

The fact he has said he would like to take a couple visits, but has now said multiple times he doesn’t have any set or any definite schools he will visit is a positive sign to me...makes me feel like Tennessee is clearly his leader, our biggest competition is probably the NBA.

I agree. IF was are only taking 1 then unless he gives us an indication that he is 80% or more heading to school I think we should move on. Plan B is dang good

I was seeing 18 or lower. I saw a mock last night that had him all the way up to 14. I really hope he bets on going to college to become a top 5 or 10 pick.

I think it's a two part question for him. First is he physically ready to play in the NBA? In my opinion he needs some added weight and strength. Second will he optimize his earnings by going now and taking a lower salary for his first two or three years or playing college one or even two years, getting stronger, refining his game, and going in as a lottery pick? I'm thinking he'd be better off spending a year or two in college with a coach that can get him ready for the NBA.

But then, what do I know?

With him, next year's Tennessee squad becomes a force to be reckoned with. Barnes knows how to develop guys for the League. Pro athletes need to make that money on the front end, so I think AS would be wise to spend a year at UT on a great team under a proven coach, then go get lottery money. It could be literally a matter of millions of dollars.

Make it rain, Anfernee.

I’m behind. Did they do away with the one and done rule? One year not required anymore?

No they didn't. Simons is eligible because he will be 19 before the June draft.

That's what I was told. Someone with a better understanding of the rules please feel free to correct me or give a better explanation

Idk about his age but he went to prep school. So for the one and done rule his one was spent at prep school.

For those who can't read embedded tweets can someone please post what Dals embedded tweet says?

“Plenty of NBA teams with scouts in attendance for five-star guard Anfernee Simons. Former Louisville commit is eligible for this year's NBA Draft. Recently visited Tennessee.“

I think it already is and Barnes has told him not to commit until he is sure he isn't going to the NBA.

Just my guess

It’s possible. If the kid is comfortable with his ability he may think his one year of college is a formality. Maybe he hopes for nba and we are his fall back option. The longer he goes without visits the better I would feel.

Still the more likely scenario is that he open to all options and he’s about to take some more visits.

Said today he would be visiting NCST next month fwiw. Also said he was going to go through the NBA draft process meaning he theoretically could hold out until June.

Do you see this as a situation where Barnes would take his hypothetical commit regardless of time frame? As in basically cut someone else if we fill our scholarships?

I don’t think you can do that to someone on our roster in June, would be horrible publicity.

My guess is at some point Tennessee tells Simons they gotta know something, but then again maybe they will just leave the scholarship open.

They don’t seem in a rush to do anything with a guy like Khavon Moore, and VQ says they don’t think Tyler Harris will visit until they’ve got an answer drom Simons so idk. Something has to give you would think.

Maybe the coaches feel so comfortable with their returning team that they are willing to bank that a scholarship and use it in 2019. Maybe It's Simon or no one

That is the #13 (Simons), #44 (Moore), and #67 (Harris) ranked players in the country!

I like who we have, for the most part, but it would be a shame if we had to turn down any one of them.
