I’m just saying that if we’re trying to sell him on playing time it’s not a sales pitch that is likely to ring true to him when you don’t have to look that hard to see our philosophy for all 3 years of the Heupel era has been play upperclassmen.

Gibson has mostly played on ST and only played corner when injuries forced him in the lineup or we are up big.

Hobbs has pretty much only played in the blowout games.

So neither have gotten anything really meaningful.

I think both got drafted higher than their projection the year before. I don’t think Jackson was even going to be drafted until his final college season.

So yeah, obviously Martinez deserves credit for those two guys’ improvement. That goes without saying.

The defense looked better this year until all the injuries happened. When you have linemen hurt and then lose most of our linebackers it will obviously make the secondary look worse. This isn’t even taking the injuries to the secondary into account. Then you add in an offense that is simply can’t score at the level Heup is accustomed to, everything snow balls. So just blaming Martinez for everything is pretty week. The defense is designed around pressure and if that doesn’t happen his guys are in a tough spot. You cant send everybody without leaving holes In the secondary. The DL hit a brick wall against Mizzo. Anyone want to blame CRG?

When they play poorly, Martinez should get the blame. When they play well, he gets credit. It’s not that hard.

I like Martinez. He is well respected, has experience, and relationships. But, as things ebb and things flow in the world with NIL etc. Inability to adapt to those changes, and I mean in how you deploy your troops, how you recruit those troops, and the troops you do recruit. Are within your specific 'area management'.

We are in a win-win scenario here with Martinez. Stay loyal, give him a one year. Know what you get. Take a chance, see what you can find.
