For All Those Hyping Billy Clyde

Because of what he did at UTEP and A&M.

O yea, i forgot about all the championships he won there and every other great accomplishment he achieved that would leave one to believe that he will definitely win a championship next season or atleast be in discussion for it

Says the man who was babbling all offseason about the impact Keno Davis was going to make at Providence. Keep digging, boys. This is the same level of idiocy I saw after Alabama lost to La-Monroe and everyone was laughing at Saban. When all is said and done, UK will be the ones with the last laugh.

I thought you agreed upon SEC titles.

His squad will be on the short list next season in the national title discussion.

Dude. Seriously. I get the unconditional love some have for Gillespie, but I will be amazed beyond words if UK is on any short list for a national title next season.

Question: How was he able to take two crap programs and make very quick turnarounds but it's at least going to take three years with a program that was far healthier than his previous two stops?

Does it not at least raise some sort of red flag?

yea because football and basketball in the SEC are very similar... Saban also turned around in his second season and started out 12-0, lost to the national champions in the SECCG and reached a BCS bowl...

meanwhile...

BCG turned around in his second seasn and started out with a loss to VMI, and 8-7 record in one of the most down years in the SEC including a loss on their homecourt to the worst team in the SEC...

So what makes you think BCG will be the one in the end that is laughing?

P.S. - Saban actually wasn't the one laughing in the end this season either... Utah and FLorida were

You guys worshipping Billy G. may be exactly right. He may be the greatest basketball mind since Wooden, and the life lessons he teaches people by losing games may make the Cats indestructible in the years to come.

What I see is a guy who had a team that should have been better than 18-12, a gracious tourney bid, and an exit before lunch on the first day of the dance last year. I also see a team this year with 40% of the 1st team all conference players and a fist full of heralded freshmen that is going to fare worse.

Gillispie took over one of the best programs in the country, and two years into his tenure his results are underwhelming. How long does he get before his coaching genius doesn't matter as much as his team's performance?
If Patrick Patterson makes 1st team All SEC ahead of Chris Johnson or Korvortney Barber, all voters should be rounded up and euthenized.

look what he has coming. His starting 5 next year is going to be stout.

I love how everyone keeps rattling on about how "healthy" Kentucky was when BCG arrived. They were "healthy" enough that a coach who had won a National Title chose to jump ship to a middle of the pack Big 10 program instead of waiting to be pushed off the deck.

I'd say he forced to walk the plank as opposed to jumping ship.

Fact: UK was far healthier than his previous two stops up to this point.

Fact: He's done a worse job at UK than UTEP and A&M up to this point.

Fact: He was in a better position to win early at UK than his other two jobs.

Despite inheriting a better situation he hasn't produced like he did in the past. Despite projecting what he might do in the future I don't see how this can be argued.

My entire point has been if one is going to call out CBP at certain points in the season, how does CBG get a free pass because of what he might do in the future? Meanwhile CBP gets discredited for present success based on what might happen (him failing) in the future?

Break out the zyklon. I think the fact that he is in the top 5 in the league in points, rebounds, blocks, and FG shooting is going to garner Patterson enough votes to sneak in under the wire.

I think this says it best from Kenny "SKY" Walker

"It's the first time he's been in a pressure situation," Walker added. "Everywhere he's been, he didn't have anywhere to go but up. Kentucky is a whole different animal."

If all the voting is going to be done by stat worshipping dim bulbs, you're right. If that's the case, my call for euthenizing is even more appropriate.

They probably are mostly "stat worshipping dim bulbs." I'm not sure what criteria you believe they should be using, but I'm betting that being among the best in the league in every measurable category relevant to his position is going to get him a few votes.

Anyone who has actually watched games this year and thinks Patterson has been better than Johnson or Barber needs to take up canasta. The same goes for anyone who votes for Jodie Meeks ahead of Marcus Thorton.

Thats what they base it on every year isn't it? Also, without Patterson and Meeks UK wouldnt have won 3 games in the SEC this year

Ahh...the irrefutable eyeball test. Hadn't considered that.

Personally, I'm not going to be too hard on the guys who vote for the player who is getting 18 & 9, with the potential to go off for 30, over the guy getting 12 & 9, or 8 & 7, against the same competition.

I don't get it. His teams have been atrocious, as some of the results attest.

Patterson is enormously overrated and will be a terrible pro and meeks is simply a shooter. That's all he has had to work with IMO. Last year he had two big time horses in Bradley and Crawford. Between the 4, they'll never see a start in the NBA.

Do you think Meeks is as good as Tony Delk ?

No, and it's not even close.

I have not seen Meeks very much , just when he played TN.. I do agree with you though Hat , Delk was one of the best true shooters around back then , imo . I just thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone did think
Meeks was as good .

Since people are so fond of bets it seems, how about this one: CBP wins more NCAA games in his first 4 years at UT than CBG at KY. I'm guessing CBG can catch up on his 0 in the first two years with that title team he'll have next year.
