For All Those Hyping Billy Clyde

I thought you agreed upon SEC titles.

His squad will be on the short list next season in the national title discussion.

So he's going to win a national title or close to it with two guys you and hat say aren't anything special even for the SEC (Meeks, Patterson) Darius Miller and their true freshman next year?

Miller and Liggins will be absolute difference makers. Liggins is on the bench today because he's learning a lesson that our coach needs to teach our squad.

Meeks and Patterson are good enough basketball players at this level and will no longer be playing 2 on 5 next season.

I'd love to beat them, but this was the year to get that done. Unless we improve dramatically this offseason, we'll be on the 4 in a row train next year.

You might look at their '10 recruiting class.

That will be a huge jump from a backup and a guy benched to contending for a national title next season.

I'm curious how many teams have gone from not making the tournament to national champs in one year?

That '10 class isn't going to do anything for them next march.

Liggins benched for good reasons. Those reasons don't include inability to play with any guard in the country. Miller is a backup, but will be better next season than any third option they have this season.

I meant this rising signing class, not the 010 guys.

They had a guy knock down 5 3s last night, how much more do you need from a 3rd or 4th option? Also, they scored 85 points. Why can't the defensive guru beat UGA with 85 points? You need All Americans for defense?

so just throw out what everyone else in the country will be returning next season and just give the title to UK because BCG is teaching Liggins a lesson and next season he will learn how to be a national championship caliber point guard from being a backup to Michael Porter... riiiggght...

How many minutes did Taurean Green, Al Horford, and Jaokim Noah play as freshmen?

As a UK fan, I do sometimes want to reach through the TV and thump Billy in the head, for his substitution patterns, or lack there of. HOWEVER, outside of Meeks and Patterson (and now Miller, I believe) he has absolutely nothing to work with. You may as well grab 10 more people of the stands and you could have the same productive roster as you have now.

Next years class along with our 10' class.... should be the final indicator as to BCG's future at UK. 4 years (though I tend to say 5) worth of recruiting classes is enough to determine whats going to happen.

Some observations on this thread as well..... there are some people here that apparently are not watching the same games as the rest of us. I will leave it at that.

and by the way, great win tonight vs USC. UT played one of the most complete games I have seen them play since the pre-conference schedule.

You can't compare Liggins and Miller to those 3

I don't see why not. Both were top 50 recruits in their class. Just because they both are playing exactly how freshman play, does not mean that is their forecast for their entire career. Those florida players did not light it up their freshman year either.

Are you serious?

Well i guess Hopson, Negedu, Woolridge, and Tatum will be a dream team next season with that logic

I agree to some extent. We should have a very good team next season. The difference is that their young guys have ridden the pine for lack of D. Ours have gotten away with it.

Well, to be quite honest.. can Deandre consistently guard on the perimeter? maybe he got benched because he can't play d.. I dont care how much of an improvement any of the UK freshmen make on defense they will still have deficencies on the offensive end

You guys worshipping Billy G. may be exactly right. He may be the greatest basketball mind since Wooden, and the life lessons he teaches people by losing games may make the Cats indestructible in the years to come.

What I see is a guy who had a team that should have been better than 18-12, a gracious tourney bid, and an exit before lunch on the first day of the dance last year. I also see a team this year with 40% of the 1st team all conference players and a fist full of heralded freshmen that is going to fare worse.

Gillispie took over one of the best programs in the country, and two years into his tenure his results are underwhelming. How long does he get before his coaching genius doesn't matter as much as his team's performance?

That's what I've been trying to say. Pearl is less of a coach, had less talent, with a far worse program and turned it around in one year.

Some keep saying wait until next year with Gillespie. The UK program didn't need three years or so to rebuild.

They were saying 'wait til next year' last season too and they still suck..

And why is anyone convinced that BCG is a better coach than Pearl anyway?
