“At one point in the discussion, they weren’t going to get any severance; I had to fight for it,’’ said Pearl, who along with his attorney haggled with former UT athletic director Mike Hamilton and university counsel for hours in multiple March 21 closed-door meetings at Stokely Athletics Center. “I wasn’t happy with the settlements, either, but it was the best I could do."

UT wasn't going to give them any severance and Pearl got them something that UT didn't want to give because they were fired.

Also, Pearl tried to reach out to Shay, but Shay didn't return his calls. Maybe you should actually know the details before you start launching half truths.

Pearl said he reached out to Shay with phone calls and invitations to family events, but Shay did not respond.

Maybe Shay and Forbes should've been banking more money instead of trying to live beyond their means. Forbes had a 500K house on a 200K salary. He lived in the same neighborhood as Hamilton. Next time if they reach those salary heights again, they'll actually save some of that money instead of spending all of it trying to impress their friends and neighbors.

I'm really impressed. You pulled up an article by a person with his head further up Pearl's ass than you and Muschump. Pearl nearly walked out of the meeting because he was only getting $1 million. If you think he was concerned about his assistants, you're even more dense than I originally thought. And, I find it even more hilarious that you're still blindly believing Pearl.

Okay, I get the point you think Pearl is a douchebag. Maybe he is, I don't know him so I won't make that call. What I do know is he made a royally stupid mistake. Major league dumb. Frickin' moronic. And he put UT in the NCAA crosshairs.

I also know this wasn't the first time he broke the illegal contact rule as it has been noted he had a reported violation when he was at UWM. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess this is a pattern of behavior for him. We always note how every coach breaks rules they just don't get caught. I'd say this illegal contact was probably a norm for Pearl and his staff, but they just didn't get caught. I'm also gonna guess his staff had no qualms about this as they went along with it and in their many years of working with him didn't try to find gainful employment elsewhere. All conjecture of course, but it does have an air of probability to it.

So they finally got caught got with their hands in the cookie jar by the NCAA. They had to know all along that the possibilty of getting caught was there, yet they willingly chose to keep doing what they were doing. So in comes the NCAA to investigate. Now, the question is, who lied first? Even you posted in another thread you were hearing it was Jones, and that Pearl went along with it to cover his guys. How is this hanging them out to dry? Hell, maybe Bruce should be pissed at them for turning a minor violation into a major one and getting him a 3 year show-cause. The waters are to murky to just start pointing fingers IMO.

As for shunning, it sounds like the Shays are doing the shunning. I reread the article to make sure I read right, and Mrs. Shay says she keeps getting updates from Pearl's wife on facebook. Yet she's not responding. Could Pearl pick up a phone and call them? Sure. Could they pick up a phone and call him? I'm betting that's a yes as well.

I'm not a lawyer, but if I recall correctly, you are a law student. Did the university have to give them a severance package as they had committed a fireable offense? If the university didn't have that obligation, but Pearl helped them get it, then he did do something for them. To be honest, this article reads as a writer looking to pick whatever remaining flesh was on the carcass, and Forbes and the Shays were only to happy to play victims. I just cannot feel sympathy for them on this issue.

OK, so now since someone other than Parrish prints an article and actually gets Pearl to respond to the other article then that just means it didn't happen? Or they have their head up Pearl's ass? Maybe you have your head too far up your own ass to even be able to think logically.

Pearl was the head coach. He was going to get more than the assts Jr. Maybe you'll figure out the basic ways of doing business one day when you actually graduate and grow up. We're not holding our breath.

Oh hell. Here I thought we might actually play nice, but now the other kids have come out to play and the pissing match continues. I really want no part of that game. I was hoping to just have a civil conversation. Rarely seems to happen anymore.

First, it's nice to have a post disagreeing with me from someone that's not an idiot like some of the others in this thread. Now, I'm not assassinating Pearl's character at all; Parrish's article tells everyone what Pearl's about, and it's himself. He destroyed his own character; and, when I learned that initially Pearl was placed in a difficult situation, I said as much and acknowledged I was wrong.

What was reported to VQ is that Pearl was extremely unhappy that he was "only" getting a $1 million in buyout money. I'm just saying if he really cared anything about his assistants, he'd said, "You know, I've made millions and millions of dollars from UT. Just split the buyout." Shockingly, he didn't. I'm not saying he had to or was obligated to; I'm saying it would have been the right thing to do.

As for the severance, leave it up to ol' LawVol to just say that Pearl should be giving his own money out because, well, that's what a good boss does. LMAO.
