Fox "News" is Crap

I felt it appropo in the sense of bringing the discussion back to the original topic.

You know, the thing is I am not nearly as liberal as one might think. I am not sold on global warming. Like BigPapa, I am disturbed by how absolutist people can be on both sides of the issue. Given the stakes, I would like to think that people would have a broader perspective than just attacking the other side and defending their own egos. And that goes for both those who believe in it and those who debunk it.

I favor tighter government budgets, lower taxes, a strong military (though I wish we'd get back to speaking softly and carrying the big stick and get entirely away from nation building -- if we go to war we go totally), firmer discipline in schools, an honest debate about race and profiling (staying away from political correctness), and more police presence in the bad areas of town.

It just irks me to no end when an outfit like Fox presses their agenda and its does so in such an intellectually bankrupt way. Why can't I be moderate but loathe the mouthpiece of the non-thinking right or left?

A true lawyer. If you can say it in one word, use 25.

Susan Estrich is the person you're thinking of. If you think she sounds bad on TV, try listening to a radio show when she calls in, it's as if Darth Vader has just woke up with a nasty case of cottonmouth.

Then the answer is, YES!
I am glad that I am not paying you be the word. Oh by the way, your middle paragraph sounds to me like you should love Fox.

then I can rule out ever having a serious and rational conversation with you because I have never been convinced that global warming is anything other than a natural cycle and that mankind's activities are having a negligible impact.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

I was flipping through channels this morning and caught that Fox morning show, the one with the two guys and the girl, chatting about the day's news.

So they started with about ten seconds of remarks about the McCain adviser who made the comment to Fortune Magazine about how a terrorist attack in the U.S. between now and the elction would help McCain's candidacy.

They then spent about five minutes showing a clip of Hillary making a remark in February about how a terrorist attack would help the Republicans. And they put up a banner about whether the media is being fair since it did not criticize Clinton for making the same comment that the McCain adviser did.

Now, I give McCain credit for yesterday disavowing the comment. He did the right thing. And the adviser I believe has since apologized. As far as I'm concerned, its water under the bridge.

Anyone in his right mind would realize both that a terrorist attack would probably result in somw voters being more attratced ot a strong military candidate but also that there is no way that McCain is rooting for an attack. That's just silly.

But this Fox News discussion about Hillary's remark was just vomitous in its illogic precisely because the original story was about whether anyone would actively root for an attack for political purposes. Clinton making her observation was not even remotely like the adviser for the candidate who would be helped making the remark.

That is why McCain condemned it and the adviser apologized. And yet Fox News took it as an opportunity to just throw some more dirt at Hillary and the media. And they did it in a way that was utterly and completely nonsensical.

If you have so much disdain for it, why do you watch?

So, you irks you when CNN, MSBNC, BBC..... do that same thing?

Fox has no problem getting left leaning viewpoints.

Bob Beckel, Kirsten Powers, Ed Rendell, Al Sharpton, Malik Shabazz, Mara Liasson, Juan Williams, Mort Kondracke, Geraldo Rivera, and a host of others all appear on FNC on a regular basis.

Ah, but you see, that is part of the plan. But for Kondracke, Liasson, and Williams, the people you listed are I believe caricatures of the left. Take Hannity and Colmes, for example. They put on a fairly telegenic hard-arguing guy like Hannity up against a goofy looking Colmes, who argues like he can't tie his shoes without asking permission.

i know who your talking about. she sounds like Charlie Rangal. she's just as whacky and Rangal.

Another good example.

Its very clever, really. By putting up people they can easily discredit as representative of the left, they delude their viewers into thinking that every Democrat is like Sharpton or Geraldo, when most of us Democrats also roll our eyes at the likes of them.

Again....it is all about balance...(not as in fair and balanced with Fox news)...just hear me out. The mainstream media has made a living deligitimizing the conservative party by rolling out the evangelical fringe while making heros out of the fringe on the left....like greenpeace and PETA.

I just think that Fox does it to a greater degree. I mean, the likes of CNN and MSNBC put on Newt Gingrich or Pat Buchanan or Glen Beck now on CNN with his own show. The three of them are stalwart Republicans and conservatives, but they are hardly buffoons easily mocked.

Compare that to Al Sharpton or Geraldo, neither of whom has any credibility with mainstream America.

When is the last time a republican staffer got a gig on one of the big three networks. Especially a gig as important as Snufalufagus or Russert?

Tucker Carlson is an idiot.

I actually think that over the last few years he has become less knee-jerk, tow the company line, and more even-handed. He is relatively intellectual, IMO.

If you put Chris Matthews to the left of center by a smidge in the way he does his show, I'd say Carlson in the last little bit has been about the same degree to the right of center.

I'd go like this:

Oberman --- Matthews -- CENTER -- Carlson -- O'Reilly

I'm not sure why people think O'Reilly is this hard core conservative. He's not.

He keeps tieing Rush Limbaugh for the Worst Person in the World award.

and who gives out this award? If what's his name from the old SNL skits (you know the guy that was never funny) has never won that award it can't be legit.

Look, I'm all for habing a honest debate, but how many more times does this have to be rehashed? If you don't like Fox, then to quote Chris Farley "Great, grand, wonderful!". Yet LG and others simply don't like Fox becauseit goes against their political views. That's it. I could make a list of everything taht's crap on CNN, MSNbc etc but it would take too long. There has not been one thread posted about any of the other netowrks and their bias. Not one.

I realize LG just likes to stir the pot, but there's a bigger issue here. The other media is so heavily slanted tot he left, and that's wht talk radio is so popular. Listen to Rush, and guess what he does? Plays clips form the news shows on the other networks to show their bias. H

You are correct that I don't like them because they are so uber-conservative.

But what I've really been complaining about is not their politics, but their method. And by method I mean intentional distorting of new reports, manipulation of facts, putting up idiots as representatives of the left or all Democrats, etc.

Its not what they stand for that really bothers me -- they can believe what they want --- its the utter disdain for logic and reason, all the while proclaiming that they are the ones who are fair and balanced.

I know you think I feel that way because of the politics, and its my own fault for giving you enough ammunition to make that claim so as to be dismissive of my bigger point. But it really isn't what they are saying that bothers me nearly as much as how they are saying it.

Yet you don't feel that way about the other networks? That's my main problem with what you're saying. I'm not asking you to like Fox or even watch it, but to sit there and say that Fox does everything you just stated, but yet say nothing about the other networks is dishonest at best.
